Clinical Assistant

Description:

Responsibilities:

1. Assists with activities of daily living such as hygiene, nutrition, elimination, mobility, comfort, and safety.

2. Monitors and documents vital signs, patient weight and height, intake/output, and other pertinent data. Files results of diagnostic studies in patient's medical record.

3. Completes patient treatments as directed and assists physicians and non-physician providers in examination rooms with diagnostic procedures, including sterile procedures.

4. Performs phlebotomy, EKG's, glucometry, and 02 saturation. Collects, labels, and processes laboratory specimens accurately and safely.

5. Performs various functions as directed by the physician, including taking and relaying complex messages and returning telephone calls to patients with instructions.

6. Ensures efficient patient flow, including transport of patients, answering patient call lights, and resolving patient issues.

7. Participates in conferences and educational programs as appropriate. Attends the annual Safety Education Fair.

8. Orders medical supplies, stacks, and cleans examination rooms and treatment areas.

9. Maintains necessary department logs for quality assurance.

Requirements:

Requirements:

1. High school graduate or equivalent, who has completed an accredited medical assistant training program or has one year of related work experience, preferably in a similar healthcare setting or physician's office.

2. Ability to read and write at level three as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.

3. Medical terminology.

4. Computer experience preferred.

5. Ability to organize, prioritize, and attend to detail in order to maintain the orderly functioning of the unit.

6. Able to successfully complete an orientation with the orthopedic technician for casting, splinting, and wrapping techniques.

7. Responds to the staffing needs of the healthcare team by cross training and floating to other units.
