JOB DESCRIPTION:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Monitors daily operation of on-line and batch processing computer systems. Takes corrective measures after interpreting console message. 2. Assumes responsibility for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting personal computer LANs and associated peripheral equipment, including upgrade to hardware and software. 3. Diagnoses peripheral and network failures and repairs or replaces equipment as needed. 4. Interacts effectively with the Help Desk to resolve reported PC and LAN problems. 5. Tests and configures all personal computer hardware connected to HIS, through LAN. 6. Reports computer systems and network abnormalities to Operations Manager, PC/HIS specialist, or on-call person. 7. Keeps abreast of industry-related changes and innovations, and makes recommendations to provide safer, faster, and more dependable personal computer processing over HIS. 8. Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational offerings. 9. Develops and maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational offerings. 10. Works under the supervision of the Operations Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. High school diploma. Two years of technician school preferred (in computer information systems); Novell Network certification preferred. 2. Two years of personal computer experience, as well as one-year experience with telecommunication equipment. Detailed knowledge of personal computers and peripherals including LAN technology. Evidence of end user support and training on personal computer software applications. 3. Working use of network and communications diagnostic equipment (i.e., Breakout box, multitester, etc.). 4. Verbal and written skills to break down complex, technical issues into concepts understood by non-MIS managers. 5. Ability to train and support and users with personal computer questions relating to WAN hardware. 6. Maintains a valid Massachusetts drivers’ license.
