Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Logistics Manager manages multiple functions within logistics at the Eugene Plant, which primarily produces frozen and refrigerated food products.  Responsibilities include transportation, inventory, and storage of packaging, raw materials and/or finished goods, distribution of materials and supplies, and warehouse and inventory management. The Logistics Manager will provide strategic vision and tactical direction for cold storage, dry storage, and logistics utilization.

The role will partner closely across the organization and with other members of the Corporate Supply Chain Leadership Team, to develop, implement, maintain, and improve warehouse and inventory operations and elevate customer service performance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures “Safety First”. Makes safety a priority by providing training, being a role model of safety, holding employees accountable, and regularly providing feedback to employees with regard to safety performance. Involve employees in ideation and resolution. Ensure tools and equipment are in good, safe working condition. Ensure that strong food safety considerations are built into processes.
  • Ensures warehouses are always audit and inspection ready.
  • Ensures that all Logistics employees are trained and follow SOPs.
  • Communicate clear expectations, targets and goals in alignment with plant and company KPIs and action items. Consistently meet or exceed departmental goals and help others achieve their targets by removing barriers. Lead the efforts to implement strategies, objectives, and priorities; with the goal of optimizing operations in terms of costs and efficiencies.
  • Manages inventory and adjustments through accurate cycle counts monthly, SAP system accuracy, prompt processing of transactions, FIFO adherence – monitoring near due date and obsolete items and materials, and warehouse housekeeping / 5S and storage materials are kept in good conditions.
  • Ensure good warehousing practices for raw and packaging material and for finished goods. Accurately records the inventory and checks inventory rotation, controls and co-ordinates all documents relevant to receipt and dispatch of goods.
  • Ensure smooth operations by effective communication and close collaboration with all internal partners at plant, supply chain, procurement and external partners as suppliers and transport providers.
  • Team management:  Effectively recruits, hires, develops, coaches, and mentors team to meet/exceed business' ongoing needs while instilling organizational core values in support of Company's Vision and Mission.
  • Track compliance with DOT requirements for drivers.
  • Understand and be able to communicate and comply with heightened regulatory expectations for ambient and cold storage operations that may influence supply chain operations.
  • Responsible for overall plant security.
  • Resolves emergent issues effectively and investigates and performs root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.

Job Requirements:

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in an Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, or Business Management) preferred, or equivalent of education and experience.

  • 5 years manufacturing/Distribution experience required, preferably in the food/beverage manufacturing with emphasis on warehousing (ambient and cold), transportation and material handling, with responsibility for Logistics or Supply Chain Management.  
  • Knowledge of CI, Lean, and TPM principles and processes.
  • Goal and results driven leader, working with SAP, WMS, and proficient use of MS Office – Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Manufacturing standards, procedures and policies: Knowledge of and ability to use and influence company policies and procedures.
  • Supply chain management in manufacturing: Knowledge of strategies and tools for controlling and optimizing the factors that lie between the purchase of raw materials and the shipment of finished products.
  • Supplier management: Ability to effectively manage business relationships and transactions.
  • Inventory management: knowledge of issues and considerations for effectively managing inventories of raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods.
  • Logistics management: Knowledge of the processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials throughout the manufacturing cycle.
  • Manufacturing operations: Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility.
  • Ability to resolve emergent situations effectively
  • Available and willing to be contacted by phone in the event of an emergency and be able to work both fixed and flexible schedules including weekends, late shifts and overtime

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and / or humid conditions.  The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and may be exposed to loud noises in the plant making wearing of PPE essential.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
