Assistant Unit Leader Job Summary
As directed by the Unit Leader, provides day-to-day management for the operations of assigned Corporate Hospitality operation at the Blair Conference Center.  Assists in leading and supports all aspects of the business operations including staff performance and development, sales and marketing, financial and facility management, and ongoing customer service excellence.  Collaborates with other Hospitality Operations leaders in managing direction and performance of the business unit.  In the absence of the Unit Leader, has overall responsibility for operations at assigned location.
Essential Functions(primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
  1. Coordinates and leads day-to-day facility operations including: corporate, employee, club member, agent and retail meetings and events. Ensures consistent delivery of product and services that align with Westfield’s goals, standards of quality, and brand image.
  2. Serves as “manager on duty” and oversees all operations in the absence of the Unit Leader.
  3. As directed, performs human capital management responsibilities including employee selection, performance management, coaching, and development.  Manages priorities and workload distribution, and removes barriers that impede progress.  Completes all personnel, salary administration, and reporting duties.  Performs operational responsibilities that drive team performance including planning, execution, process improvement and best-practice sharing.
  4. Assists Unit Leader in establishing, communicating and maintaining department standards, policies and guidelines. Ensures a healthy and safe environment for employees and guests while maintaining compliance with company-wide policies and applicable regulations.
  5. Oversees facility upkeep and coordinates staging, logistics, appearance, audio visual services, storage, rentals, furniture décor, and amenities.
  6. Collaborates with other Hospitality leaders in managing operational performance across the business unit. Attends and participates in regular, ongoing, and project based business unit meetings. 
  7. Contributes to the development and management of annual operating budgets and long range capital expenditure planning. 
  8. Contributes to the annual and long range business and workforce plans. Provides effective communication regarding these plans while ensuring needed approvals, and/or justifying variances and changes to plans.
  9. Participates and contributes in development and execution of sales and marketing plans to achieve business volume and customer satisfaction targets.
  10. Upholds Westfield’s core values and Hospitality Operations guiding principles when representing Westfield Group on campus or off-site.
Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education(in order of importance)
  1. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a restaurant or conference center manager/assistant manager.
  2. 4 year college degree in Hospitality management or related field OR commensurate experience.
  3. Strong working knowledge of food service standard operating procedures and demonstrated ability to manage operational performance, consistency, and compliance.
  4. Experience as a team leader or team coordinator with demonstrated ability to collaborate with, develop and lead an efficient and effective management team.
  5. Proven financial and budgeting acumen including knowledge of budgets, maintaining costs and meeting reporting deadlines.
  6. Demonstrated focus and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  7.  A valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

  • Ability to remain on feet for the majority of the workday
  • Ability to maintain movement, bend, lift and carry (35lbs).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, Point of Sale system; web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to climb steps and walk over varying terrain.
  • Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
