Customer Service Representative (Commercial Lines) – Columbus, OH

Description: Performs customer service duties including answering customer inquiries, communicating/negotiating with carriers, troubleshooting problems, handling renewals, and offering additional coverages.

• High school graduate, GED or demonstrated commensurate experience.
• Valid Property-Casualty agent license required within 60 days of employment.
• One year experience in commercial lines.
• Demonstrated experience performing general office support functions.
• Proven ability to handle heavy customer-contact in fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated solid math skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of general business flows, procedures and systems.
• Demonstrated experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and other standard office automation software packages.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information.

Job Duties (not an all inclusive list):
• Answers inquiries from customers including coverage questions, policy changes, quotes, billing issues, and other issues.
• Takes incoming claims calls and handles appropriately based on type of claim, carrier, etc. 
• Handles certificate requests including related coverage updates, special language requests and underwriting issues.
• Writes new business as appropriate or refers lead back to agency.
• Conducts account reviews periodically.
• Resolves disputes between customers, carriers, agencies and others while keeping appropriate parties informed of progress.
• Enhances/rounds existing accounts with needed additional coverages.
• Writes generally simple bonds for customers as needed.
• Advises agency of critical events, and follows agency’s instructions if within guidelines or procedures.
• Handles renewals, cancellations and non-renewals with care, legally saving all accounts when possible.  Notifies agency if account is unable to be saved.
• Serves as a resource to help members of commercial lines team as needed.
• Responds to company underwriting requests for additional information.
• Documents work with appropriate activities in the management system.
• Fully utilizes carrier software, agency management system and other software tools.
• Proficiently utilizes carrier resources for underwriting guidelines, forms and manuals.
• Maintains knowledge of carrier changes, market trends, products, etc.
• Stays informed of state-specific guidelines and requirements for coverages, underwriting rules, procedures and laws, etc.
• Travels occasionally for agency training and relationship building.
• Attends company and industry training events as required.
• Assists with project work as assigned.
• Performs data entry on accounts as needed.
