Job Title:   Mortgage Loan Processor/Jr Underwriter

JOB SUMMARY:                  Verify, compile and enter application information for residential mortgage loans and home equity lines of credit according to Bank, investor and government agency guidelines.  Submit mortgage loan file for underwriting decision.  Assist in preparing closing packages.  Meet standards and objectives defined by management for mortgage loan processing.   Serve as backup underwriter, when necessary.
A.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Listed in order of importance, frequency or sequence, 1=most important/frequent, etc.). NOTE:  Indicate non-essential accountabilities with an asterisk*.  All other functions are “absolutely necessary for this job”.
  1. Review loan application file to verify application data is complete and meets bank standards, including type, amount of loan, assets, liabilities and length of employment.
  2. Verify application information and make corrections in Calyx, as necessary. 
  3. Maintain knowledge of Westfield Mortgage Company’s policies and procedures.
  4. Maintain knowledge of available loan products, processing procedures, underwriting and general departmental guidelines.
  5. Assist in gathering all information necessary for underwriter to make loan decision.
  6. Consult and correspond with loan officers, applicants and/or creditors to resolve issues regarding the mortgage application process.
  7. Verify applicant’s income, employment, assets and liabilities.
  8. Thoroughly examine title reports and loan documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  9. Verify closing conditions are satisfied per bank or secondary market requirements.
  10. Maintain high levels of customer service while managing each applicant’s expectations.
  11. Attend and participate in all lending meetings as required by management.
  12. Assist in preparing and/or obtaining all appropriate loan documentation (i.e. notes, mortgages, HUDs) required to close mortgage loans.
  13. Correspond with title companies to schedule closings.
  14. Assemble documents in loan file and deliver file to bank mortgage servicing department or investor.
  15. Prepare and send loan file for document imaging.
  16. Serve as backup underwriter, when necessary.
  17. Maintains awareness, understanding and compliance with the Bank's internal policies and procedures, laws and regulations appropriate for this position.
  18. Provides assistance in response to regulatory and internal/external audit requests.
  19. (*)Performs other functions as assigned to support operations.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting.
  • Minimum 3-5 years as a Mortgage Loan Processor.
  • Four or more years of relevant conventional and government loan processing experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of both conventional and government lending guidelines.
  • Knowledge of residential mortgage processing, underwriting and closing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Proven computer skills and basic sales technique skills.
  • Strong desire to excel in a competitive environment.
  • Complete knowledge of mortgage origination process and DU.
  • Knowledge of credit analysis and prior underwriting authority for conventional loans.
Must be proficient in the use of PC, phone, fax, copier and related equipment.
Occasional lifting up to ten pounds.
