JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY:        Under general supervision, develops, maintains, instructs, audits and expands programs that enhance employee safety relative to operations and the work environment. This position will also be responsible to develop emergency preparedness plans for employees and all facilities including service offices and bank branches along with the facilitation of emergency response operations.
                                     
A.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Listed in order of importance, frequency or sequence, 1=most important/frequent, etc.). NOTE:  Indicate non-essential accountabilities with an asterisk*.  All other functions are “absolutely necessary for this job”.
 
  1. Identifies and ensures compliance with safety and health standards for employees and all facilities, including service offices and bank branches.
  2. Develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations of regulatory agencies such as OSHA and EPA. Also serves as a liaison with local fire, area hospitals, and other outside agencies.
  3. Conducts regular and random safety inspections of work sites and facilities to assess operations, compliance and to detect existing or potential accident, fire or health hazards. Recommends corrective or preventative actions and prepares evaluation reports of safety inspections.
  4. Ability to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the Safety, Security & Compliance Leader.
  5. Reviews injury and accident reports for causal factors and determines whether follow-up or corrective action is required. Initiates actions to eliminate hazards, such as developing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Safety Programs.
  6. Conducts safety management meetings to develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and written communications.
  7. Ability to do security functions, including patrols, as necessary/assigned.
  8. Prepares and disseminates information on safety issues in a timely manner.
  9. Collaborates with Risk Management, Risk Control and Business Continuity on essential issues and implementation of safety processes, including potential problems or opportunities and related solutions/recommendations.
  10. Responsible for personal development and administration. Maintain professional development through training, seminars, working together towards professional designation or similar activities that support Safety, Security & Compliance service capabilities or company results. Maintain knowledge of relevant codes/standards, technology and legislative issues as well as appropriate changes. Effectively manage and complete administrative task and workload duties.
  11. Keeps leader informed verbally and/or in writing of activities and problems with the assigned area of responsibility; refer matters beyond areas of authority to leader or appropriate channel for direction.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned to support operations.
B.  JOB SPECIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or 10 years of related experience in disciplines related to environmental safety and health regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Preferred:
  • Minimum of ten years in safety management and/or environmental health and site safety management.
  • Holds current safety professional certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required at least occasionally to climb items such as ladders and stairs, stoop, bend, crouch, reach, handle, talk, hear, utilize near/far and color vision, depth perception, sit, stand, walk, lift and carry objects weighing over 35 pounds. Additional requirements include:
  • Travel and overnight work required
  • Ability to communicate by telephone and two-way radio
  • Ability to operate a personal computer 
D.  SUPERVISES:  May supervise a variety of roles including but not limited to theSafety, Security & Compliance Officer, Security Officers and clerical staffin the absence of the Safety, Security & Compliance Leader.
