Job Description:
Assigns, directs, and coordinates the work of traffic controllers on an assigned shift.  Performs the duties of a traffic controller on a regular basis, directing guests, team members, or others within and between the parking areas.  Knows and follows all the mechanics of traffic direction; including the use of a whistle, flashlight, and flares and how to channel traffic using traffic cones.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of an assigned shift including, but not limited to,  assigning, directing, and coordinating the work of traffic controllers; posting traffic controllers, maintaining radio log, updating the electronic pass-down log (each shift); maintaining good electronic documentation of incidents and maintaining the integrity of the Traffic Department and Viejas Casino.
  2. Ensures traffic controllers are attentive, using proper mechanics, and providing excellent guest service; resolves problems with scheduling, equipment, or other issues encountered or refers to management as needed; and assists with on the job training of department staff.
  3. Follows all rules established by Security, Transportation Department and Casino Management.
  4. Coordinates with shuttle drivers (via two-way radios) to provide timely transportation to and from the various parking lots.
  5. Enforces parking regulations set by Casino Management.
  6. Directs guests in and out of parking lots in a safe manner.
  7. Knowledgeable with regards to local highway and freeway systems to provide guests and others with directions as needed.
  8. Knows all parking lots entrances and exits and provides guests with directions as needed. Follows all California Vehicle Laws.
  9. Advise the Outside Security units (Post 5) of any unusual or suspicious activities that occur in and around the various parking lots.
  10. Assist other departments, such as Valet, Shuttles, Maintenance, and Security, when assigned by the Manager of Transportation, or designee.
  11. Report any abandoned vehicles to traffic supervisor who will then report it to the Security Department.
  12. Report any safety hazard and violations to the Manager of Transportation Operations, or designee.
  13. Informs Maintenance or Security Department when guests need assistance in the parking lot, such as jump starts, lock outs, or flat tires.
  14. Coordinates with the Hospitality Representatives for daily Group Tour Bus schedules. Notifies the Hospitality Representative when Group Tour buses are coming down the ramp, heading towards the South Entrance (Post 2).
  15. Practices Viejas Guest Service standards while performing job duties and responsibilities.
  16. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Manager of Transportation Operations and/or the Director of Transportation.
Assists with supervising team members in the Traffic Control Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities may include interviewing and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid Civilian Traffic Control Certificate.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
  • Required to possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Thorough knowledge of driving/roadway laws and regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
