Professional - Patient/Resident Care Support

Position Summary:
A key member of the Rehab Services professional staff responsible for providing clinically competent treatment programs for all assigned patients, and to document care according to department standards.  Represents Via Christi within the community.  Must be able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of injury, illness or disability of patient population served and clinical competency and performance in the following:
    • Injury assessment/diagnosis, treatment strategies and intervention programs
    • Equipment/modalities used in treatment
    • Documentation of progress or lack of progress, daily treatment encounters, and monthly progress notes discussed with treating physician, in accordance with departmental standards
    • Adapting patient care plan to patient needs
  • Works independently of supervision from physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of on-field emergency protocols.
  • Monitors/evaluates emergency action plans (EAP) annually for assigned work settings.
    • Demonstrates communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, family, staff and others.
  • Provides professional education to students, staff and the public.
  • Provides patient care daily:  productivity standards to be set per clinical area.
  • FOR COLLEGATE  CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS ONLY:  Employee agrees to abide by all applicable rule, regulations and legislation of the ICAA, Wichita State University or Newman University, The Missouri Valley Conference, The Heartland Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Employee may be terminated for good cause for any of the following: major violation of NCAA rules, gross professional or personal misconduct, and refusal to perform the duties required, being convicted of a felony, insubordination or violation of applicable rules, policies, or procedures of the ICAA.
  • May perform other duties as requested or assigned.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports medicine related field from four year college or university.

Technical Skills

  • Must be fluent in desktop software programs;
  • Is knowledgeable of sports injury tracking software.     

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Licensure with Kansas State Board of Healing Arts or requirements met to become Licensed in the State of Kansas.
  • Current Certification with the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Position Scope/Patient Population:

  • Ages of patient population are dependent upon the work setting, but could include Pediatric (2-12), Adolescent (13-18), Adult (19-64), and Geriatric (65 and over).
