Via Christi Health's rich history of serving the people of Kansas and the surrounding region dates back more than 100 years to the healing ministries of our founding congregations. Today, Via Christi Health is the largest provider of health care services in Kansas. We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.
Responsible for configuration, purchase, installation, maintenance, monitoring and upgrades to all servers, operating systems and storage devices. Maintains security and business continuity practices on all systems including daily data backup and protection processes. Understands the operating system and network communications necessary to deliver applications to the desktop, and works in unison with the network engineers to trouble shoot performance and connectivity issues. Provides detailed documentation on configuration for each server, develops and maintains upgrade and expansion plans, and provides input for budgetary purposes. Maintains file for all software licensure and assures each system is compliant.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Based on vendor or developer's requirements, configures, quotes, and receives hardware and software into system. Builds, tests, and implements servers per specifications. Moderate knowledge of servers and storage. Assist management as requested with configuration, quote, and receiving processes. Builds servers to comply with contractual requirements.
Provides or obtains tools to monitor, sustain all servers and insure proper performance. Reports and or reacts to unusual trends with metrics. Ensures latest software upgrades are in place and all enhancements are implemented per specifications. Prepares yearly plan for sustaining all servers migrating to new or upgrading existing operating systems.
Works closely with the Applications and Security team to insure all servers are properly protected per security policies and procedures. Maintains appropriate data backup solutions for all servers and storage systems.
Ensures and maintains proper storage systems for each server whether directly attached or part of the corporate SAN. Monitors performance and growth of data, develops ongoing sustainment plan, and implements all enhancements as required.
Understands the contractual arrangement that has been negotiated with the vendor (support, upgrades, service hours, contractual obligations, and all other issues related to the server product). Maintains library for all system licenses and insures current compliance of each server from a licensure standpoint.
Responsible for ensuring contracted obligations are adhered to, such as licensing requirements. Keeping track of scheduled system upgrades; Keeping senior and Lead informed of changes in maintenance costs
Utilizes disciplined methodologies, defined by the organization, to move all new or enhanced servers into production. Participates in the implementation of disciplined methodologies to accomplish server related activities; ensure servers are not placed into production until thoroughly tested; authority must be granted by manager or Lead to move into production.
Responsibility in documenting disaster recover requirements for the servers and storage systems based on the criticality of the business applications and ensuring they are incorporated into the overall organizations disaster recovery plans. Performs periodic tests of the back up data for viability and restoration qualities.
Schedules/Coordinates implementation of server and storage system changes with all affected organization (other system owners/users, applications, telecommunications, management, etc). Ensures all changes strictly follow the organizations change control process.
Maintaining business knowledge of how the servers are utilized by the organization (the types of OS, storage systems, and applications being run and the overall end user requirements). Designs and develops solutions to ensure they meet business requirements. This includes incorporating appropriate server architecture and parameters, determining appropriate core hardware and software to provide maximum benefit to the user community.
Works closely with the applications and network teams to diagnose and correct performance issues. Provides accurate documentation for all issues utilizing the organizations systems or databases as required. Routinely examines issues for repeating patterns and trends.
Regular review with management on performance against project plans or network development; ability to define detail level of task for specific assignment

Education and/or Experience
3-7 years experience required plus a 4 year degree in Computer Science or 2 year degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
This job position will have a dual administrative role for both IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers. Candidates applying for this position should have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in an enterprise datacenter environment with either or both AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Candidates with an IBM AIX background should ideally have some or all of the following experience:
AIX 5.3 and 6.1, including LVM, NIM, and TCP/IP.
Experience with Power6 & Power7 Systems, including HMC and LPAR management.
Experience with installation and configuration of AIX servers
Knowledge of scripting (PERL, ksh, AWK, etc.), system backup and restore, and software/hardware problem determination
Experience with PowerHA, VIOS, and LPM a plus.
Candidates with an Linux background should ideally have some of all of the following experience:
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
Advanced understanding of security methods including system hardening and SELinux
Knowledge of configuration and utilization of storage technologies such as SAN and LVM
Knowledge of scripting languages (PERL, BASH and Python) a plus
