Position Summary:
Works in conjunction with the maintenance lead, completes preventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) as assigned.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Repairs and performs preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance.
  • Assists in performing functions of Life Safety not limited to but including: testing Fire Alarms (FA)/Fire Suppression (FS) devices and dampers, wall/barrier inspections.
  • Assists the electricians with changing light bulbs.
  • Assists HVAC with replacing filters, initial responder to hot/cold calls, clean/repair wall/ceiling vents and perform PM’s.
  • Assists plumbers with plunging sinks and stools, isolating water leaks, repairing water leaks on fixtures if fittings are loose, troubleshooting on hot/cold water calls, and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and repair various types of equipment in a variety of areas and departments including but not limited to: Food and Nutrition Services equipment, kitchen equipment, sterile processing, pneumatic tube system and controls, plumbing problems, nurse call light system, televisions, beds and general carpentry.
  • Ability and knowledge to isolate equipment and/or utilities in case of emergency failure.
  • Performs all aspects of lawn maintenance, including snow removal.
  • May assist with managing hazardous waste satellite and storage containers.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.


            Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and related experience and/or training preferred in general maintenance.

            Technical Skills

  • Proficient in use of all job related tools and test equipment.

  • Computer skills:  Has understanding and experience with the use of basic Windows program and Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and Outlook Email.
  •  Training (for applicable employees): Hazardous waste training shall be provided to employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter. Employee shall be supervised until training is completed

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Kansas Driver's License.
    •  Insurable for driving company vehicles (through Via Christi’s policy) as applicable to duties.

  • Occasionally required to carry or lift items weighing up to 100 pounds for short distances.
  • Frequently required to stand or walk.
  • Frequently required to sit in a stationary position.
  • Frequently performs activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.
  • Constantly able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as phone calls and customer questions.
  • Frequently able to use near vision for viewing computer monitor and written materials.
  • Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate environmental issues.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood, body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and sharp objects potentially contaminated with blood borne pathogens or other infectious agents.
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally high
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to grease, lubricants, hazardous chemicals, and other contaminants.
