JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:
Assists in all functional areas of the Nutrition Services department including, but not limited to: staffing, scheduling, training, ordering, food production, meal service, resident documentation, and resident interviews.
 
 
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 
 

  • Coordinates the assignments of the Nutrition Services staff, providing leadership to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner. 
  • Provides coverage for shifts when necessary due to employee absence.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of food.
  • Supervises or assists in cleaning procedures to ensure safety and sanitary conditions are maintained.
  • Effectively communicates policies, expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and work procedures to the Nutrition Services staff.
  • Schedules, orients and trains Nutrition Services employees.

 
Management Responsibilities:
 

  • In the absence of the Director, shall have administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the department. 
  • Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety.
  • Participates in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of staff.

Qualifications:
 
Education and/or Experience
 

  •  High School Diploma or its equivalent, preferred.

  • Proficient culinary skills.

  • Ability to navigate the internet and Via Christi intranet

 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
 

  • CDM preferred

  • Ability to access all areas of the ministry throughout the workday.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to obtain assistance of another qualified employee when attempting to lift objects over 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds above the head.
  • Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position.
  • Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.
  • Frequently performs activities that require climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching with hands and arms throughout the day.
  • Constantly uses hands and fingers to prepare food items and to operate kitchen equipment.
  • Frequently able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as voices and phone calls.
  • Frequently able to use all types of vision, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to complete daily tasks.
  • Constantly required to detect unusual odors that could indicate spoilage or environmental issues.

 
 
Working Conditions:
 

  • Position is Category II of Potential Exposure, which includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require performing unplanned Category I tasks (expected exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues).  OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard 1910.1030(c)(2)(i) more specifically defines Category II Potential Exposure as: Normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment.
  • Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment () should be readily available to employees engaging in Category II tasks.
  • Work is generally performed in an indoor, well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated and air-conditioned environment.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions by staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Subject occasionally to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff, and visitors.

 
Position Scope/Resident Population:
 

  • This position provides services to adult and geriatric resident/participants.
