Accountant I

Description:

 

Summary

The incumbent will prepare income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports. Must enter, review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Expected to coordinate accounting matters with specific departments, locations and/or divisions, as necessary. This is an entry level accounting position and required to utilize skills gained through formal training.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the completion and maintenance of general ledgers and financial reports.
  • Prepares month-end journal entries for financial statements.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts for accuracy.
  • Verifies accuracy of amounts in S/L accounts; Verifies checks and balances are in place in all departments.
  • Controls costs by giving management tools to use.
  • Identifies problems in procedures and provides solutions for future reliability of accounting data.
  • Conducts special studies and perform analysis of financial reports and records.
  • Prepare reports and supporting schedules for management review.
  • Communicate findings effectively to management.
  • Work in a team environment to complete monthly close process and other projects as needed.

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Experience

  • 0 – 2 years of Accounting experience required

 

Skills/Certifications

  • Basic knowledge of general accounting principles required
  • Great organization, verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is critical
  • Excellent computer skills required; Microsoft Office suit with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use processes, tools and techniques for exploring and evaluating alternative financial scenarios and results.
  • Experience with financial software (AS400 and Infinium) preferred.
