Job Title:   Substitute Teachers' Aide
Sycuan Tribe

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)
  1. Assists the Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers with the instruction of children in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, creative, and intelectual development by implementing individual and group activities, promoting child development in language, social, emotional, and motor skills, teaching children how to listen to instructions, learning to play with others, and the use of play equipment, preparing meals and snacks, fostering cooperative social behavior through games, and group projects, assisting children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults, and promoting self expression and appreciation of esthetic experiences. -  25%
  2. Provides a safe environment for children by observing children’s daily behaviors, enforcing rules for behavior, and reporting any unusual situations and/or suspected abuse to Education Department Lead Teacher and/or Supervisor. - 25%
  3. Maintains a sanitary environment for children by sanitizing toys, common areas, play equipment, and maintaining clean and orderly play areas following established procedures. - 25%
  4. Provides guidance to children by monitoring hygiene after use of the restroom and prior to meals, and establishing appropriate personal cleanliness and self care. - 20%
  5. Supports the Education Department by attending required meetings, events, and assisting with special projects as assigned. - 5%  
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to work with children and adapt to the needs of children
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, staff, and community representatives 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and directives
  • Ability to routinely lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, push and pull
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to appear for work on time

Job Specifications:
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 6 units of college course work in Child Development
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification
  • TB clearance and Whooping Cough vaccination  
  • Child care or preschool program experience
