Job Title:   Physician- Internal Medicine/On-Call
Sycuan Tribe

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)
  1. Examines, diagnoses, prescribes, and administers treatment to patients from 16 years through geriatric
  2. Performs preventive health exams following CHDP, MediCal, Medicare, and CHG guidelines
  3. Examines, diagnoses, prescribes and treats Sycuan employees with work-related injuries according to Tribal First guidelines
  4. Maintains regularly scheduled clinic hours
  5. Establishes goals for adult health care practice for medical department and determines baseline standards of adult care under Board policy direction from the Medical Director
  6. Assists professional health care team in development, implementation and periodic review of health care policies, protocols and procedures
  7. Establishes goal and purpose of health care practice for the Clinic and determines the baseline standards of care for the Clinic under Board policy direction from the Medical Director
  8. Attends full staff and medical staff meetings, whenever possible
  9. Adheres to standards for infection control in accordance with local, state, and federal OSHA regulations
  10. Maintains patient care audit process, which insures that the quality of care provided meets acceptable standards
  11. Participates in a system of internal peer review and patient chart review
  12. Develops a positive relationship with local medical groups, hospital medical staff, medical societies and consumer groups
  13. Promotes health education activities designed to promote a healthier community and cost-effective use of SMDC’s Medical Department and other services
  14. Maintains hospital (staff) privileges at one (1) or more hospitals in the San Diego area 
  15. Arranges for inpatient care of adult patients requiring hospitalization using contracted hospitals, when possible

Job Specifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Professional Degree from accredited medical school
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in good standing issued by the California State
  • Board of Medical Quality Assurance
  • Board certified or Board eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • 3 years of practice as an internist
  • Current CPR certification
  •  Tribal clinic experience
