Machine Operator

Operates machines that punch, nibble and dimple metal plates, sheets and structures to meet specific specifications.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments, material requirements, quantity, and job sequence.
  • Manually sets tools and punches as specified by setup sheets.
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Measures work piece dimensions with the use of ruler, templates, calipers, square, tape measure, and micrometer to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Engages program to begin cutting or punching holes in material.
  • Manually lifts material onto machine.
  • Reads blueprints and job orders for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
  • CNC programming required to set machine up, including but not limited to, changing specifications, and trouble shooting.
  • Maintains tools in proper location and condition, including assembly, sharpening, and critical visual inspection.
  • Inspects work pieces before use to eliminate damaged pieces and after use to ensure high quality.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
  • Other duties as assigned.



High School Diploma or equivalent; one to three months related work experience.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Must be able to operate a forklift, crane, and big joe. NCRC: Silver
