Summary:

Learn and conduct emergency and routine security sweeps for the detection and/or deterrence of explosive threats.  The EOD Canine Security Officer working as a team with a trained canine partner, perform specific explosives detection response for all the Golden Entertainment, Inc. entities as assigned.

 

Perform daily canine care and ensures the health and welfare of the canine in order to optimize team performance. This position requires specialty training in the management of trained canines dedicated to explosives detection.

 

Position requires a canine. Disclaimer: All dogs accepted for training and use by Golden Entertainment, Inc. are the sole property of each individual K-9 Security Officer. The canines are to be considered a valuable tool for the company and an essential function of performing this position. The proper care and maintenance, and any financial obligations regarding such, of the dog is the sole responsibility of the K-9 Security Officer(s).

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas, including but not limited to, the gaming floor, hotel, and back of the house areas to promptly respond to potential explosive and ordinance threats that can affect public and team member safety
  • Conduct security patrol sweeps within the view of the public to provide a noticeable deterrent
  • Maintain a presence on a rotating basis in all areas of the Golden Entertainment, Inc. locations during peak and non-peak hours
  • Ongoing canine Explosive Detection and Ordinance training to include searching luggage, a warehouse and specific vehicles
  • Continuous 24/7 for care and feeding of the dog, including maintaining the kennels in a sanitary condition, and emergency first aid, as needed
  • Proper storage, handling and transportation of explosive training aids in accordance with program procedures
  • Maintain necessary training records 
  • Use detector dog to inspect facilities, baggage, etc., for explosives
  • Prepare written reports 
  • Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Security department’s service to its team members, patrons and guests by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active team member of the Security department
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable gaming laws and company internal controls, policies and procedures, Title 31, and federal regulations, as they apply to the position
  • Provide outstanding customer service in a timely manner to both guests and fellow team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Certified training from an accredited canine handling school in the effective handling of an Explosive Detection and Ordinance detection canine
  • Must possess a certified trained Explosives and Ordinance Detection Canine. ( See below for Canine Criteria)
  • Must be able to complete Explosives Detection Canine Team Handler training during probation/qualifying
  • Annual EOD K-9 certification by the State of Nevada State Certification
  • Must reside in a location with safe canine conditions and ample room for a dog kennel
  • Principles and practices of EOD canine handling, motivation, care and feeding; knowledge of safe handling of explosives used in canine training
  • A total combined minimum experience of 3 years of Military, Law Enforcement and or Security
  • Experience working in a canine explosives detection environment preferred
  • Work with potential explosives and exposure to unknown and potentially dangerous situations
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of applicable state statutes, codes and regulations including operation and security requirements; techniques for dealing with the public and team members often where relations may be confrontational or strained
  • Ability to take charge of and directing others in emergencies or other dangerous incidents as they relate to suspicious or actual explosive ordinance.
  • Be able to work extended shifts, take calls and be able to respond to situations in a maximum of 45 minutes
  • Experience working effectively with and without close supervision in both emergency and standard work situations
  • Experience accurately perceiving, soundly reasoning, and correctly judging situations, occurrences and circumstances; assessing and prioritizing situations and determining appropriate response.
  • Experience writing and maintaining accurate reports, training logs, legal documents, and other administrative documents pertaining to the position
  • Must be able to effectively use all computer systems applicable to the position
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Obtain and maintain all work cards as required by the company
  • Verify right to work in the United States

 

Canine Requirements

The proper care and maintenance, and any financial obligations regarding such, of the dog is the sole responsibility of the K-9 Security Officer(s).

  • German Shepherd, Belgian Malimois, or like breed
  • A minimum of 11 months of age
  • Weigh between 55 – 110 pounds (considered by reasonable persons’ standard to be mid-sized)
  • Have proportionate lines harmonious with a straight solid back and shoulders
  • Teeth must pass veterinarian examination
  • All canines must have a general physical examination to include fecal exam and Distemper Hepatitis Leptospirosis (DHL) and rabies boosters
  • All canines much be X-rayed for hip dysphasia with a Schnelle grading of -0 and #1 as acceptable, or a rating of good being acceptable from the Orthopedi Foundation for Animals, or a German “A” stamp rating of “normal” or “fass” normal
  • Before any canine is considered for canine training, it must be pre-tested and evaluated as to its fitness for service.  The purpose of such pre-testing is to determine if the animal has any undesirable temperament characteristics that would adversely affect its serviceability.  Testing will be conducted by someone assigned by the Company and a certified canine trainer.  Pre-testing shall measure including but not limited to, the following qualities:
  • Temperament
  • Alertness
  • Prey and defense drives
  • Play and retrieving drives

Physical Requirements

  • Uses a two-way radio or other communication devices in the course of work
  • Use standard office equipment including a computer
  • Ability to successfully perform in a timely manner all the physical movements associated with situations that may present to Security personnel; including movements necessary to successfully complete company-assigned training courses applicable to the essential duties of the position
  • Occasionally push/pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs. at floor, knee, waist, and chest levels
  • Occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. above head
  • Occasionally squat, kneel, and sit
  • Occasionally run throughout assigned working zone as situations dictate
  • Frequently walk, climb stairs, reach, bend, and twist
  • Constant use of hearing and vision, walk, stand, distinguish between shades of color, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
