Attire - 
The Society has a very conservative grooming policy.  Tattoos may not be visible or must be appropriately covered while on duty.   Jewelry may be worn if it does not detract from a well-groomed look or create a safety hazard. No facial or tongue piercing.

Based at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Conservation Research adjacent to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, more than 200 dedicated scientists carry out research vital to the conservation of animals, plants, and habitats, locally and internationally.  

EXCITING NEW SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK INCENTIVE PROMOTION FOR SELECTED SUMMER JOBS (Merchandise and Food Service Sales Clerk, Ticket Seller, Guest Ambassador and Building and Grounds Attendant)

Newly hired employees will receive $125 incentive after completing the new employee orientation and 4 weeks of department training.  Furthermore, the newly hired employee will receive an additional $125 incentive for working until at least August 12, 2018 or 60 days whichever comes later. (20 - UNION POSITIONS) Starting hourly wage: $12.50


We are looking for dynamic individuals who can provide our guests with an exceptional customer service experience. Requirements include a positive attitude, ability to take initiative, be a team player and have the ability to communicate effectively with guests and co-workers and an eagerness to put your passion for wildlife to work.

Responsibilities for these positions include basic janitorial methods used in grounds keeping and custodial work janitorial (tasks such as wiping down tables and keeping the designated area(s) clean). Must be able to lift moderate to heavy objects.

Applicants must have written and verbal skills. Interested applicants must be available any of the (7) days of the week to include weekends and holidays.

CA driver license desired but not required. Must be at least 18 years of age to drive on Society property and have a current/valid CA driver license.

Scheduled hours per week will be approximately 16-20 hours. Shift start and ending times will vary. Must be available between the hours of 6am-7pm January - September 2018. Days off TBD.

We have a conservative grooming policy which includes:

** Hair color must be of a natural tone and in keeping with a dress policy of moderation.

** Tattoos may not be visible or must be appropriately covered while on duty.

** Fingernails must be kept clean and well trimmed, not excessive in length and nail polish should be well-maintained and professional in appearance.

** Jewelry - Earrings - Two per ear are allowed so long as at least one is a stud. Pierced parts of the body other than ears may not be used to display jewelry/hardware at the workplace and ear plugs/spacers may not exceed one half inch in diameter.

One of the essential functions of this position is the ability to drive a SDZ Global vehicle. If you are offered employment in this position, you will be asked to authorize SDZ Global to access your current driving report through the DMV’s Employer Pull Notice Program. Your hiring for this position will be contingent on SDZ Global receiving an acceptable driving report for you. In addition, your continued employment in the position will depend on you maintaining an acceptable driving record. You may obtain a list of conditions that disqualify a person from driving an SDZ Global vehicle from a Human Resources Representative.

Job Requirements:

Under general supervision; keeps an assigned building and/or grounds area clean, sanitary, safe and orderly; maintains cleanliness of equipment; performs special cleaning periodically; and performs related work as required. 


A Building & Grounds Attendant is assigned a continuing responsibility for cleaning and policing a specified outside or inside area. Work is subject to inspection in process or upon completion. This class is distinguished from positions in the next higher class, Lead Building & Grounds Attendant, in that the latter has lead responsibility for the work of a group of Building & Grounds Attendants. 


Cleans patios, walks, streets, and other public areas; removes debris from unpaved areas; collects trash and debris; cleans picnic tables, umbrellas and awnings; empties and cleans trash containers; loads debris and refuse on trucks; cleans gutters, filters and traps; operates trucks used in cleaning operations; steam cleans bins and vehicles; drains and cleans reclamation pool; cleans interiors of administration buildings, offices, rest rooms, warehouse and ticket booths; polishes surfaces; vacuums carpets and waxes floors; cleans and re-stocks rest rooms; washes windows; cleans walls, blinds and furniture; cleans and maintains tools and equipment; and performs minor, routine utility maintenance repairs. 


Knowledge of: - Methods, materials and equipment used in groundskeeping and custodial work. - Layout of the Zoo or Wild Animal Park. 

Skills to: - Perform the duties outlined above. - Perform heavy manual labor. - Understand and carry out instructions. - Complete work on schedule without immediate supervision. - Deal tactfully and courteously with the public. - Operate heavy motor vehicles and power cleaning equipment. - Prepare cleaning equipment and materials including choosing proper tools and cleaning agents. 


Education, training and/or experience which would demonstrate the knowledge and skills outlined above.


Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, allergens, and loud noises; ability to move about grounds and buildings; ability to move about on slippery surfaces and work from elevated positions; and ability to move moderate to heavy objects.
