The Registered Veterinary Technicianperforms all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of connecting people to wildlife, conservation and pursues green/conservation practices when feasible. The Registered Veterinary Technician assists the veterinary staff with clinical and surgical procedures and also provides technical support and nursing care for the collection. This position reports to the Veterinary Services Manager.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Examples of representative qualifications include veterinary technician experience in a zoo or exotic animal research facility is desirable; this classification requires California licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician or eligibility to sit for the examination within one year of employment.
Work is in a hospital and outdoors with animals and in varying weather conditions; possible exposure to radiation, zoonotic diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, narcotics, and biohazardous waste.
This position has been identified as one requiring at least occasional lifting in excess of 50 pounds; frequently move moderate to heavy objects, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
