POKER DEALER

Description:

Position Summary

Deals poker, accepts bets and retrieves or conducts payouts based on winning card distribution.  Handles player transactions, notifies Poker Shift Supervisor or Poker Floor Person of any irregularities or disputes that may arise during the game. Cleans playing cards for the Poker Room Department.

Supervision Exercised

Reports to the Poker Floor Person, Poker Shift Supervisor, and Poker Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Greets new customers and assists in seating and transferring customers.
  2. Expedites new customer chip buys and assists with table fills.
  3. Responsible for following shuffle procedures: box strip, card delivery/pitch, deck protection, accountability of discards and deck hands, accuracy and control.
  4. Deals predetermined number of cards, in proper sequence around the table, based upon number of players.
  5. Complies with Sandia Resort and Casino System of Internal Controls.
  6. Controls all card table gaming action and enforces proper game rules.
  7. Notifies supervisors of questionable actions on the part of the customers.
  8. Responsible for proper rake and bad beat jackpot collection.
  9. Ensures that players follows proper betting procedures.
  10. Responsible to count and verify impressed bank.
  11. Provides excellent customer service and establishes guest perception of the Poker Card Room as that of exceptional hospitality and friendliness.
  12. Responsible to understand and observe the proper dealer rotation.
  13. Responsible to follow all procedures with the regard to the acceptance of tips.
  14. Promotes Player’s Club Card registration with customers.
  15. Responsible for adhering to Title 31 procedures.
  16. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to deal cards, in an acceptable manner, as determined by management.
  2. Ability to deal with co-workers and the general public in a patient, courteous, friendly and professional manner.
  3. Ability to handle cash/chip exchanges efficiently and accurately.
  4. Ability to receive, count and pay out tournament winnings.
  5. Knowledge of card suits and winning poker combinations.
  6. Knowledge of the processes, rules and procedures utilized in poker games.
  7. Ability to follow all bad beat jackpot procedures/payouts.
  8. Ability to deal all types of tournaments.
  9. Complete understanding of Poker Card Room rules and procedures.
  10. Knowledge of proper use of shuffle machine procedures.
  11. Ability to work odd and unusual hours, including weekends, and overtime.
  12. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

Required:

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year prior poker dealing experience. The completion of an external structure training program with certification, in house training program, or the passing of a table audition may substitute for experience.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Licensing Status

  1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the required Gaming License.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions

  1. Work is performed indoors.
  2. Work hours are subject to change with overtime work required.
  3. Subject to hazards, which may cause personal bodily harm; smoke, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
  4. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors.  Ability to work a flexible scheduled including weekends and holidays.
  5. Duties may involve walking, standing for long periods of time, sitting and crouching. Specifically required movements include the following:
  • Trunk - bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry
  • Arms – reach, carry, lift, twist, and rotate
  • Legs – lift, push, pull, twist, and rotate
  • Hands – Grasp, manipulate bilateral coordination, hand and eye coordination, and overall and finger dexterity.
