JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary
Responsible for the overall management of the Wellness Center and recreational facilities, equipment, programs, and activities and, in season, the Pueblo swimming pool, in the absence of the Wellness Administrator.
Supervision Exercised
Supervised by the Wellness Administrator.
 
Supervises the Recreation Assistants, Interns, Facility Custodian and personnel as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assists in planning and implementing multifaceted program(s) designed to meet the health and recreational needs of Pueblo residents.
  2. Oversees budget and staff associated with recreation programs.
  3. Acts in a teacher/educator capacity within the Pueblo youth programs.
  4. Assists in scheduling and publicizing activities and events aimed at meeting the needs and interests of Pueblo residents to include the use of equipment and the facility.
  5. Assists in developing, reviewing, and evaluating program effectiveness/objectives and redesigning programs/objectives as necessary.
  6. Assists in drafting and monitoring budgetary expenditures for maintenance and repair of existing and additional equipment.
  7. Assists in maintaining a comprehensive inventory on all equipment and Center components needing maintenance work to include frequency of inspection, adjustment, and service and repair requirements.
  8. Conducts inspections on facilities and equipment to ensure that operating procedures are in compliance and maintenance repairs/improvements are being performed.  Recommends building modifications as necessary.
  9. Ensures that facilities and equipment meet safety and health codes and rectifies unsafe conditions.
  10. Oversees and monitors the use of the Center by tenants and clients.
  11. Responsible for the opening and closing of the Center.
  12. Assists in supervising and/or performing all operations involving the swimming pool to include the supervision/performance of pool staff.
  13. Oversees the activities of the Pueblo Youth Club.
  14. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned commensurate to the grade level assigned.

  1. Ability to plan and implement health and recreational programs.
  2. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
  3. Ability to draft complex special-use reports and documents.
  4. Ability to communicate positively with the Tribal and general community.
  5. Ability to implement a program designed to encourage the use of Center programs and equipment.
  6. Ability to draft and give public reports.
  7. Knowledge of Wellness Center operations required.
  8. Knowledge of the processes used in the development of health and recreational programs required.
  9. Knowledge of and ability to develop and administer a budget.
  10. Knowledge of Native American cultures, traditions, and practices.
  11. Knowledge of repair and maintenance requirements for a large building or facility.
  12. Knowledge of community social, health, and fitness programs.
  13.  Knowledge of processes used in organizational development and planning processes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
  1. Combination three years of college education.
  2. One (1) year facility and/or recreational management experience; related experience may be substituted for education.
  3. Experience should include program development and administration.
  4. Prior supervisory experience necessary.
  5. Valid New Mexico Drivers License
  6. Must have, or be willing to work toward, certification in the following:
    1. Fitness/Health Certifications through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) or
    2. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or
    3. Kenneth Cooper’s Aerobic Research Institute Certification and
    4. CPR Certification.
  7.  Additional licenses as required.
Licensing Status
Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
