HEAD LIFEGUARD

Description:

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions.  Assists in hiring, training, scheduling and appraising lifeguards.  Ensures that life-saving certification is current and that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures and coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pools and monitoring swimmers and to enforce all safety rules.

Supervision Exercised

Supervised by the Pool Manager.  Works under general supervision.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensures swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks.  Fills in for lifeguards as necessary.
  2. Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.  Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
  3. Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas is maintained during operating hours.
  4. Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
  5. Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.  Provides input and feedback while responding to problems.
  6. Teaches individual and group swim lessons and other water activities.
  7. Works in the capacity of the Pool Manager in his/her absence.
  8. Keeps management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
  9. Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Pool Manager.
  10. Reports any unusual activities or unsafe conditions to management.
  11. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned

  1. Must be an excellent swimmer.
  2. Ability to work under limited supervision.
  3. Ability to work with both children and adults.
  4. Knowledge of first aid.
  5. Knowledge of Wellness Center and Tribal rules regarding facility use and operation.
  6. Knowledge of general safety rules, equipment, games and operating procedures.
  7. Knowledge of general safety, requirements and procedures.
  8. Ability to read signs, labels and follow directions

Required:

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year experience as a lifeguard.
  3. Lifeguard Certification.
  4. CPO Certification

Licensing Status

  1. Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions

  1. Ability to work outdoors at high elevations for multiple days.
  2. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of twenty pounds.
  3. Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
  4. Subject to noise levels, odors.
  5. May require working odd and unusual hours.
  6. Duties will involve walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, and swimming.
  7. Specific required movements include the following:
  • Trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry
  • Arms-reach, carry, push, pull, lift, twist, rotate
  • Legs-lift, push, pull, twist, rotate, balance
  • Hands-grasp, manipulate, bilateral coordination, overall and finger dexterity
