Assistant Retail Maintenance Technician

Job Description

  • Assists in the routine preventative maintenance of all equipment of the Retail group including petroleum dispensing equipment, self-contained refrigeration units and food service equipment.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and minor repair activities such as painting, plumbing, electrical, light carpentry and finish restoration.
  • Performs periodical janitorial maintenance such as cleaning windows, floors, vents, filters and rest rooms
  • Assists with the assembly and placement of store fixtures.
  • Regularly inspects all equipment and facilities of the Retail Group to assess maintenance needs.
  • Performs emergency repairs for all equipment and facilities.
  • Uses hand tools, electric tools, ladders and miscellaneous power equipment as directed, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Performs snow removal as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to two years related experience.
  • Experience working with a variety of tools.
  • Basic skills in areas such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards would be a plus.
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to keep good written records.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.


Physical Requirements:


  • Fine manipulation of the hands for occasional use of copier, computer and telephone.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, kneel, climb, crawl, and reach above the shoulder.
  • Repetitive use of the hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling and/or typing i.e. small tools, paint brushes, keyboard etc.
  • Acute speech, vision, hearing and sense of touch required.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift up 50 lbs. and frequently up to 35 lbs. using proper lifting techniques.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under conditions ranging from extreme hot to extreme cold.
  • Must be able to work around mechanical and electrical hazards.
