Director of Employee Engagement

Job Description

Oneida Nation Enterprises, LLC. (ONE) is seeking an experienced employee engagement professional to lead our employee engagement and communications strategies and initiatives. The primary purpose of this role is to enhance employee engagement in organizational objectives and priorities and build culture through the planning and execution of a range of employee communication tools and engagement programs. This role is responsible for helping ONE employees stay informed, feel connected and engaged, build our employer brand and reinforce our values-driven culture.

 

SummaryThe primary responsibilities of this position are to manage the development and execution of all employee engagement programs, platforms and activities with an aim to develop support for Oneida Nation Enterprises, LLC business strategy, culture and values.  This individual must be able to simultaneously manage, coordinate, and execute a number of complex internal communications and engagement projects with employees, within stringent timelines and budget parameters.

 

Key Objectives of the Role

  • In the first 18 months, work as part of a team to provide subject matter expertise in selecting  a new Human  Capital Management System as well as employee engagement and communications solutions and platforms.  Effectively deploys assigned segments of new systems and platforms.
  • Actively support digital transformation for employee communications.  Develops and implements strategies to increase use of social media, mobile communications and other platforms to enhance the employee communications and engagement strategy.
  • Coordinate employee communications and employer value proposition development to unify the Oneida Indian Nation’s diverse operations and businesses within a strong organizational culture.
  • Conduct initial engagement studies, analyze data and recommend priority actions to improve engagement strategy.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Effectively manages employee communications and employee feedback systems and vehicles, ensuring dissemination occurs via appropriate platforms, supporting the desired strategy of the organization.
  2. Monitors all communication content to ensure quality and HR compliance standards are aligned with the organization's diverse culture and brand.  Develops or reviews all general employee communications to ensure appropriate messaging and accuracy. 
  3. Stays abreast of new trends that can be introduced to communicate and engage employees, making recommendations to the Vice President for Human Resources.
  4. Provides effective leadership and oversight for direct reports on the employee engagement team; sets clear objectives and establishes accountability.
  5. Creates, develops and monitors employee communication channels/platforms to include appropriate social media (i.e. Facebook, etc.) as well as employee e-mail and text programs, and provides comprehensive maintenance of intranet, postings, digital and social media.
  6. Researches and develops new and innovative ways to create a high level of employee engagement.
  7. Researches and recommends best approaches and methods for gathering employee feedback that will optimize participation and quality of data collected. 
  8. Manages the employee feedback process to achieve targeted objectives; utilizes surveys crowd sourcing, and other data collection tools as well as two-way dialogues such as focus groups, idea panels, etc., according to business need.
  9. Tracks, monitors and creates meaningful reporting and recommendations based on employee sentiment, opinions and engagement levels.  Creates and analyzes metrics to identify patterns in employee data, such as employee survey results, labor turnover, etc. to shape communication and engagement activities, drive action, maximize impact and evaluate success.
  10. Fosters relationships and collaborates within the HR Department and across the organization to better understand and meet employee engagement and communication requirements, while providing a high level of internal guest service.
  11. Collaborates with the External Affairs Department, Enterprise Marketing Department and Casino Marketing Department, working in partnership to drive strategic messaging and results.
  12. Serves as project lead on assigned employee events and provides generous support of other employee events and programs across all sites.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:            

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Communications.
  2. At least 5 years’ experience leading internal communications and employee engagement strategies within a medium to large organization (at least 2,500 employees)
  3. Leadership experience in implementing new engagement platforms and technology.
  4. Expert knowledge and experience in leading digital communication transformation to include web, mobile and social media with employee groups in an operationally diverse environment.
  5. Supervisory experience.
  6. Experience with event and project management.
  7. Experience working in partnership with leaders and colleagues to drive results.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to grammar, spelling, detail and accuracy.
  9. Flexible approach to working hours in order to support a multi-site, 24/7 operation, with occasional programming that occurs on nights, holidays, and/or weekends.
  10. PC literate and experience with multiple communications platforms (i.e. digital, social, intranet, and other traditional media sources.)
  11. Ability to adhere to a strict confidentiality policy.
  12. Excellent organizational, evaluation, assessment, collaboration, team work, relationship management and decision-making skills.
  13. Strong analytical and sophisticated reasoning skills.  Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.
  14. Proven ability to set and manage priorities, manage competing demands and to provide timely response to urgent issues.
  15. Proven experience in aligning communication and strategic goals.
