POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the CEO, the COO is responsible for overseeing and managing the corporate and operational functions of MEAG NY including Operations, IT, Office Admin and Financial Analysis.  The COO provides ongoing advice and counsel to the CEO and has a key role in developing and implementing the company’s operating policies and long term operational strategies. 

Position Purpose:

 
Reporting to the CEO, the COO is responsible for overseeing and managing the corporate and operational functions of MEAG NY including Operations, IT, Office Admin and Financial Analysis.  The COO provides ongoing advice and counsel to the CEO and has a key role in developing and implementing the company’s operating policies and long term operational strategies.
 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee core back-office operations of asset management, as well as corporate functions for the overall organization:
    • Coverage
      • Operations, Office Admin, ITA --- via department heads
      •  ITI, Financial Analysis --- direct involvement in requirements
    • Maintain organizational capability within all areas of responsibilities; create clear and measurable metrics to calibrate and hold accountable professional excellence across these departments.
  • Provide project management monitoring information to keep officers informed of firmwide resource allocation
  • Liaise and integrate with MEAG Munich in areas where there are synergies and productivity gains; help migrate toward one global asset management platform.
  • Work with colleagues of Munich Re in North America to ensure effective and efficient process and support are delivered to the organization, particularly in areas where explicit service level agreement has been set up and/or regional resource optimization can be obtained.
  • Drive business sourcing decisions (in-house vs. outsourced) and build capabilities and capacity for in-sourced capabilities while overseeing the selection and performance management of outsourced capabilities.
  • Initiate and implement projects to address asset management needs in efficient and cost effective manners; drive continuous improvement discipline, including monitoring of key performance indicators, root cause analysis, solution design and implementation.
  • Ad hoc projects as and when required


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • 12-15 years of relevant experience, with 5 in an executive level position equivalent to CAO/COO responsibilities
  • 10 + years experience in the financial markets, preferably in operations or finance field of investment industry with extensive relationships/contacts
  • Graduate degree preferred 
  • Strong IT background, i.e., with extensive IT employee oversight or IT project management experience
  • Senior manager with proven managerial abilities, including people development and team building
  • Extensive Line Management  experience
  • Possess the highest personal and professional ethics
  • Superior communication, organization and administrative skills
  • Pragmatic in approach yet innovative and inquisitive; flexible and adaptive to changing demands
  • Ability to build relationships across the various divisions of Munich Re Group.
