JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Conducts and/or oversees investigations relative to employee discipline and terminations; employee dissatisfaction collective bargaining language; violations of company policy; or violations of federal, state or local law.
  • Manages the grievance process, up to and including preparation for arbitration in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Manages internal disciplinary and separation appeal process for non-represented employees.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to management on all employee related problems, which could result in discipline and/or interprets collective bargaining agreement language; and recommends the appropriate course of action. Also provides recommendations relative to company policies, interpretation and administration of the collective bargaining agreements, and/or any other employee relations related matters.
  • Conducts training for management on company policies, collective bargaining agreements, local, state and federal agency requirements, and proactive employee relations.
  • Manages unemployment and workers compensation process with third party administrators to minimize the company’s compensation liability.
  • When requested, assists with disciplinary documentation to ensure consistency in policy application.
  • Promotes direct communication and positive rapport among employees and managers.
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings with management and employees when a problem occurs to effectively resolve disputes that may arise from interpretations or actions involving human resources, company policy or contractual language.
  • Partners with Corporate Labor Relations for more complex cases, which could include working with outside legal counsel.
  • Post and file counseling notices in FileNet
  • Assists in the administration of leaves of absences (LOA) including FMLA/General Medical Leave, Personal, Bereavement, Jury/Witness Duty and Military Leave in conjunction with company policy, federal, state or local statutes.
  • Ensures compliance by managing the licensing process for employees including I-9 re-verifications, licensing updates and training compliance.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
  • At least 2 years of experience working in Labor and/or Employee Relations in both a union and non-union work environment.
  • Possess sound judgment, superior decision making and problem solving skills to assist management and employees in dispute resolution.
  • Ability to be pro-active and look beyond problems and current practices to develop solutions to maximize the effectiveness of the department.
  • Good working knowledge of policies, procedures and laws concerning employee relations and investigative procedures.  
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal agencies that provide enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act, Fair Labor Standards Act and other legislation.
  • Mediation skills for effective resolution of issues.
  • Ability to fairly and consistently enforce the organization’s policies, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of operating general office equipment to perform scanning, faxing and copying in addition to proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple work assignments while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with employees, management and all business contacts.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms. 
Preferred:
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar resort setting.
