Position Summary:

It is the responsibility of the Training Specialist to design and facilitate Property training courses and to assist with maintaining/administration of the Company learning management system while providing excellent guest service.  All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures, within the framework and intent of the MGM Grand Detroit Mission Statement.


Essential Functions:

1.      Supports the Training Director in the development and design of training strategies, methods, and courses to be delivered to the Property.  Researches, develops, designs, modifies, updates, facilitates and evaluates training initiatives, including the development of training resources and preparation of training materials, checklists and aids, using accelerated adult learning principles

2.      Assists the Training Department in the completion of needs assessments, evaluation of gap analysis, and execution of action plans in the development and assessment of training curriculum.

3.      Facilitates courses in support of Property and Departmental goals and industry-required training.

4.      Facilitates focus groups to understand the impact of organizational changes, training curriculum, and Company initiatives.

5.      Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers to facilitate timely solutions for the Property and Departments.  Solicits ideal training times from various departments to ensure course availability across all shifts.

6.      Assists in administration and maintenance the Company learning management system for the Property to include adding courses, building position matrix, and assigning courses.

7.      Maintains training calendars, training enrollments and confirmations, and room reservations to include audio-visual, room set-up and food & beverage.

8.      Acts as training facilitator for all Human Resource curriculums.

9.      Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all guests while staying alert to their needs.

10.  Responds effectively to guest inquiries related to MGM Grand Detroit and the downtown Detroit area providing excellent guest service.

11.  Resolves guest complaints within scope of authority; otherwise refers the matter to management.  Notifies supervisor and/or Security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged theft.

12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.      21 years of age or older.

2.      Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, business management, related field or equivalent work experience.

3.      Three years experience in design and development of computer based training curriculum.  Experience in hospitality preferred.

4.      Two years experience as an LMS administrator.

5.      Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to use the ADDIE model in all training projects.

6.      Experience in classroom facilitation in a corporate environment preferred.

7.      Experience in the design and facilitation of guest service programs preferred.

8.      Experience in multi-tasking of projects and project management.

9.      Knowledge of adult learning principles, training facilitation and evaluation, curriculum research, and instructional design for Company training courses.

10. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, outlook and Power Point. 

11. Strong keyboarding and typing skills

12. Excellent guest service and hospitality skills.

13. Strong problem solving and listening skills.

14. Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

15. Bilingual abilities preferred.

16. Ability to demonstrate ease in speaking to and moderating large groups.

17. Ability to demonstrate creative abilities and writing proficiency.

18. Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

19. Ability to lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds at a time.

20. Ability to push and pull heavy items and equipment.

21. Ability to perform various activities such as constant standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting.

22. Ability to work in an environment where pipe, cigar, and cigarette smoking is permitted.

23. Ability to function and act independently.

24. Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral.

25. Ability to function in a fast paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.

26. Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

27. Obtain/maintain Michigan Gaming Control Board Level 3 Occupational License.
