Human Resources Specialist


Provide HR support and assitance to 2 manufacturing plants, a transportation depot, and a professional office.

Provide leadership for positive Employee Relations

  • Take on “employee advocate” role in a manner that addresses employee interests and concerns, within the requirements of the business, managers, and customers.
  • Walk the floor on a regular basis, on all shifts, in order to solicit input, answer questions and provide leadership accessibility.
  • Deliver employee activities that foster a meaningful connection to the company and to further enhance working relationships.
  • Administer Human Resources programs and guidelines in a manner that maintains a fair and equitable working environment.
  • Provide key stakeholders with updates on employee morale and issues.
  • Provide all employees with a confidential and accessible forum for coaching and mentoring as needed.
Provide Performance Management Consultation to Leaders
  • Manage annual exempt & non-exempt appraisal process to effectively recognize strong performance and address problem performers.
  • Counsel supervisors and managers on how to effectively administer discipline, when required (consistent, fair, legal, focused on improvement – however, taking an advisory role and letting mangers make the final decision).
  • Manage Drug Testing for cause process.

Manage employee records, wage and benefits programs

  • HR data input and record keeping.
  • Administer annual wage increase.
  • Administer DOT HR-related requirements.
  • Gather area market data to ensure wages for hourly positions are competitive.
  • Communicate and administer hourly incentive programs.
  • Interface with HQ staff for any exempt salary administration needs and updates.
  • Partner with EHS Manager on all Workers Compensation activity.
  • Refer ad-hoc benefits questions and needs to HQ staff or appropriate insurance carriers while ensuring proper services are provided and employee questions or concerns are resolved.
  • Local coordinator for Employee Assistance Program; refer employees as appropriate.

Serve on leadership teams

  • Ensure Human Resources output is linked to operational goals.
  • Advise leadership on Human Resources issues and changes (laws, benefit changes, company guidelines).
  • Take on major tasks and actions as identified by management.


  • Administer hourly/non-exempt job bidding process and recruiting/hiring processes.
  • Assist HR Manager as needed with any exempt level recruiting.
  • Administer leave request process and act as site FMLA Administrator.
  • Develop and implement assessment testing for new hires.
  • Address EEOC/Affirmative Action plans and issues (AAP provided by outside consultant).
  • New hire orientation.
SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks.
  • Ensure Bio-security procedures are followed.
  • Support SQF by maintaining the New Hire Process.
  • Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 5+ years HR generalist experience / familiar with employment, employee relations, performance management and personnel administration practices
    • Previous some experience in a union work environment prefered
    •  Must have manufacturing or transportation experience
    • Abiility to multitask
    • Primarily local travel only
