Quality Assurance


  1. Provide coverage in lab for vacations, sickness and holidays as needed.
  2. Assist performing routine daily lab work as needed.
  3. Escort government inspectors, 3rd party auditors and Hood’s Quality Auditor when the QC Manager is not available though the plant.
  4. Coordinate work flow, calibration dates, and maintain Lab and Plant document record organization.
  5. Train new lab techs as necessary
  6. Ensure that Producer bacteria and butterfat testing is done as required.
  7. Keep track of lab supplies and ordering as necessary working within laboratory budget.
  8. Maintain existing lab equipment in good working order and obtain service as necessary.
  9. Keep butterfat machine calibrated and in good working order.  Set up new product channels as needed.
  10. Monitor the plant weight checks daily and inform operators of problems.  Place out of spec product on hold for further testing.
  11. Become thoroughly familiar with the FDA 2400 series forms and maintain lab IMS certification.
  12. Perform monthly documented plant inspections for Good Manufacturing Practices.
  13. Ensure the daily Vitamin Reconciliation is done and report any deviations to appropriate personnel.
  14. Maintain and organize plant QC checks.
  15. Assist with testing consumer complaints as they come in, react to trends involving this plant and notify appropriate personnel
  16. Prepare and send weekly QC report to Director of Quality Assurance.
  17. Perform monthly environmental pathogen checks.
  18. Set up new lab machinery as it comes in
  19.  Set up new testing and reporting methods as business requires.
  20. Communicate non conforming test results to appropriate personnel
  21. Assist production employees to correct deviations and eliminate in the future
  22. Follow all safety rules and correct any issues that may compromise safety
  23. All other duties as assigned


Minimum of AS in science field, microbiology, chemistry, food science; BS preferred. 
Required experience of 5 years in food processing facility.  Dairy with culture experience highly preferred.
New York state licenses for DMC, milk receiving and appendix N testing preferred.
SQF, FDA experience
Experience in a Union environment a plus
Flexibility with schedule required
Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills, planning, scheduling.
