Material Handler


 Position Summary:
Ability to safely and proficiently perform:
               shipping and receiving duties of product from the Pratt Road distribution warehouse to various customers, DSD depots, company facilities, and truck/trailers.
               Perform all duties related to warehouse functions inclusive, but not limited to, maintaining a clean and safe warehouse environment.
Essential Functions:
  • Be aware of all safety procedures, including knowledge of the purpose and proper operation of all safety switches or devices, and can safety properly start and stop all machinery as required.
  • Actively participate in all safety trainings and promotions within the department/ facility/ company and take an active role in working safely and reporting hazards immediately.
  • Responsible for maintaining high level of compliance in housekeeping and SQF’s, and keeps the work area clean and inspection ready.
  • Keeps the Warehouse Supervisor informed of any maintenance needs.
Specific Tasks and Duties
  • Safely perform duties in positions assigned, maintain a safe working environment for all employees, adhere to company safety goals.  Alert supervisory staff immediately of any safety issues.  Understand and comply with OSHA standards at all times.
  • Follow SOP for shipping and receiving of company products.  Ensure paperwork/system updates associated with product movement and inventory is completed timely.
  • Pick orders as assigned, pull product from coolers ensuring pallet stacks and leveling is based on specific customer designations.
  • Maintain proper rotation of stock to ensure rotation and accuracy of code dates.
  • Complete required training for powered industrial trucks as required and updated.
  • Safely and efficiently load/unload truck trailers as assigned, manually or with warehouse equipment.  
  • Completion of warehouse reports as related to product movement.
  • Monitor the quality of products to maintain standards for the product being shipped, immediately notify Warehouse Supervisor of any quality issues/problems.
  • Follow GMP and SQF procedures at all times.
  • Assist with training of new hires.
  • If trained, perform safety observations on peer employees and turn in to Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor.


 Education, Skills & Experience
  • High School Diploma
  • Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Communication skills with English language, including reading and writing
  • Ability to work independently
Physical Requirements & Environmental Factors:
  • Standing – long periods of time (minimum of 8 hours)
  • Sitting – occasionally for short periods
  • Walking – frequently
  • Bending – frequently
  • Twisting of Spine – Occasionally
  • Lifting – medium to heavy ( up to 50 pounds) frequently
  • Carrying – medium to heavy (up to 40 pounds) frequently, distance – up to 200 feet
  • Pushing/pulling – under 75 lbs without assistance – infrequently
  • Ability to climb on and off powered industrial trucks as assigned.
  • Exposure to cool warehouse environment
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn as required and provided by the company
  • Uniforms and cold weather gear to be worn as required under GMP’s and company policy.
