This position is responsible for the procurement of products for both wholesale and retail segments of the company to maximize sales and profits, negotiating with vendors and suppliers, buying and merchandising assigned categories, which include new item selection, items discontinuance, Planogramming and gross margin management. This position will be expected to conduct effective trade relations with suppliers and vendors.


This position will be measured by:

  • The level of wholesale sales achieved and the profitability of those sales made in concert with our approved trading partners
  • The success of “Special Buys” made and the effect these buys have on store sales and profits
  • The plans to assist the stores in merchandising “special buys” and how those plans are communicated and executed by the stores including display ideas, signage and point of sale material, and the development of contingency plans for “buys” that don’t meet our sales goals
  • Follow through to insure the “paperwork” on special buys is complete and follows company policy and procedures
  • Spending time with the field supervisors, riding with them to establish a working relationship, providing help and direction as well as leadership to all field personnel. Goal is to be in the field one day per quarter with each field supervisor in all divisions.
  • Knowledge of store layouts, designs, demographics and limitations of the stores
  • Responsible for promotional pricing of all special buys and the coordination of deliveries, drop shipments and distributions of special buys
  • Contribution to the sales planning process including development of the annual marketing calendar, and regularly scheduled promotional events
  • Effective use of vendor programs that is account-specific for our company and the meaningfulness of the programs
  • Effectiveness of trade relations conducted on behalf of the company
  • The timelines and implementation of new and discontinued items at store level
  • Encouraging and building a “Team” perspective throughout the company and in the marketing department to help achieve positive attitudes and good feelings about the company and its practices promoting a positive place to work and shop
  • Be available for a minimum of 5 ½ days per week
  • Overnight travel when required



  • Minimum two-year degree in a related field preferred
  • Previous buying and merchandising experience, minimum 3-5 years
  • Industry related store experience, i.e. management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, no restrictions
