Sergeants - Police Dept.


Under the direction of the Lieutenant, the Sergeant serves as the field leader/officer in charge of a shift or unit during an assigned tour of duty; ensures the proper enforcement of all federal, state, and tribal laws and ordinances; and assumes duties and responsibilities of the Lieutenant in his/her absence, as assigned. The Sergeant is responsible for planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of sworn law enforcement staff involved in traffic and field patrol, investigations, crime prevention, community relations, and related services and activities; and supervising non-sworn staff as assigned. Successful completion of a Connecticut police academy and a minimum of five (5) years employment as a sworn Police Officer. Bachelors Degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field preferred. Working knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of modern law enforcement; and federal, state, and tribal laws. Working knowledge of modern philosophies and trends in police management preferred. Valid Motor Vehicle Drivers License; CPR/First Aid Certified; Firearms Certified; CT POST (re)Certification required within 90 days of hire. Able to qualify for Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Deputy Special Commission.
