Health Educator / Counselor
Under the direction of the Tribal Health Services Director the incumbent is a key part of the THS multidisciplinary care team. The incumbent designs, implements, and evaluates strength-based health and wellness educational programming in support of the goals and objectives of the overall Tribal Health Services mission and SDPI Grant. A THS primary philosophy is the mind-body connection and the integration and enhancement of access to behavioral health in primary care. Incumbent provides clinical and crisis intervention counseling services as needed and appropriate in the primary care setting, based on referral by the Medical Director. Undergraduate degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Education and Master's Degree in counseling. State of CT Professional License mandatory (LPC preferred) with five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience in a combination of settings including education, health and wellness education, professional counseling, dietetics and nutrition, and/or health administration. Experience working with Native American population mandatory. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in grant writing and grant management required; Valid Connecticut Drivers’ License required. Must have ability to certify annually in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire and Fire Extinguisher Safety, and Emergency Management Planning. Knowledge of HIPAA and Privacy Act.
