Job Description

WORKINGHOURS:
Thisisanhourlyposition.  Theincumbentisexpectedtoworknormalbusinesshours,butmustbeabletoworkaflexible scheduleincludingnights,weekendsandholidaysasneeded.
 
SUMMARY:
UnderthesupervisionoftheSupportServicesDirector and the Grants Officer,andinconsultationwiththeTribalYouthProgram(TYP)AdvisoryBoard,theTYPCoordinatorisresponsiblefordevelopingandimplementingtheDryCreekTribalYouthProgram,asitis describedanddefinedintheTYPStrat-Pak,whichservesasablueprintfortheprogram.TheTYPCoordinatorwillorganize andconductactivitiesforNativeAmericanyouththatare aimedatacademicimprovement,careerchoices,culturalgrowth, recreation,drugprevention,andsocialization.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. DevelopandimplementstrategiesforeffectiveoutreachtoTribalyouthandfamiliestoincreasetheir

participation in TYPactivities.
2.   Assist in organizing culturaleventsand activitiesthatbringtogetherTribalyouthandelders,andthathelpTribalyouth developculturalskills, learnabouttheirculturalheritage,anddevelopastrongersenseofculturalidentity;
3.    Attend, supervise, and interactwith youthduringTYP activities and eventstoestablishgoodrelationships.
4.    Coordinate the annualsummer youth internship program activities and functions. Also includes developing interaction with Tribal departments in which youth have the opportunity to learn day-to-day operations of the Tribal Government.
5.  Work with the DCR Education Department Assistant toidentify and implementwaysin which theTYPcanexpandtheTribe'seffortstosupportTribalyoutheducationalgoals,by assisting to improvegrades,encourage betterattendance,andinstill a strongerattachmenttoschool.
6.   HelpIdentifyandcoordinatewithlocal and other Tribal communitypartners(suchasInter-Tribal
           CouncilonCalifornia, SCIHP, and local schools)to assist inimplementingTYPcultural, educational
       and other related activities.
7.   Help developandimplementplansforcommunicating withTribalmembersaboutTYP
      accomplishments,goals, andactivities.
8.   Maintain regularcontactwithTribalyouthwhoparticipateintheTYP,helpingthem feelthattheyare
        partofa programthatincludesotherTribalmemberyouth,andgivingthemopportunitiestohave
     inputintothedesignofthe TYP.
9. WorkcloselywiththeTYPevaluatortodevelopandimplementanevaluationplanfortheTYP.
10. Track informationaboutyouth participationand youthlearning,andshareitasneededwiththe
     TYPevaluatorand theTYPAssistant.
      11.Maintainconfidentialityofallrecords,materials,andcommunicationsconcerningtheidentityof
     clients.
      12.MeetregularlywiththeTYPAdvisoryBoardtoupdatetheBoardaboutTYPactivitiesandneeds,
            andtoincorporate theBoard'sinputonthedirectionoftheTYP.
      13.Work withthe TYPManager,asneeded,toprepareregularreportstothefederalagencythatfunds
               theTYP.
     14.Coordinatewith other Support ServicesstafftoimplementTYPactivities.
      15.AttendtrainingsandworkshopsasrequiredbythefundingagenciesorbytheSupportServices
              Director;
      16.ActasarolemodelforyouthparticipantsandalwayspresentoneselfasacredittoDryCreek
          Rancheriaand encouragesotherstodothesame.
     17.Meettheattendanceguidelinesofthejobandadheretoregulatory,departmentand
       companypoliciesandprocedures.
      18.Performotherdutiesasassigned,includingassistingwithotherSupportServices programs,as
              neededandinstructedbytheSupport ServicesDirector.
 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisoryresponsibilitiesforthisposition.
 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Toperformthis jobsuccessfully,anindividualmustbeabletoperformeachessentialdutysatisfactorily.Therequirements listedbelowarerepresentativeoftheknowledge,skill,andabilityrequired.
 

  1. MusthaveexperienceworkingwithIndianAffairsand/ortribalgovernment;
  2. Priorexperienceworkingwithat-riskyouthandtheirfamiliespreferred.
  3. Musthaveabasicunderstandingofmentalhealthissueandalcoholanddrugaddictionandrecovery.
  4. Musthaveknowledgeofcommunityresources.
  5. Priorexperienceworkingfor/with NativeAmericanTribalorganizations/projectspreferred.
  6. Priorexperiencedevelopingprogramsand coordinatingrecreationalandgroupactivitiespreferred.
  7. Mustbesensitive totheneedsofthetribalmembership.
  8. Mustbefamiliarwithofficeproceduresandofficeequipment.
  9. Mustpossessstrongcommunication,administrativeandorganizationskills.
  10. KnowledgeofBusinessEnglish,spellingandofficeprocedures.
  11. Mustbeable togetalongwithco-workersandwork as ateam.
  12. Mustbeabletoworkinaculturally diverseenvironment.

EDUCATION:
1.   HighSchoolDiplomaorequivalentGEDrequired.
