Oncology Infusion Clerk
Location: Cancer Center at Renaissance
Coordinates the scheduling of procedures for Oncology Infusion Services according to policy and meets the needs of the patient, physician, and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. Assists in registration, financial clearance for treatment, processing physician orders, maintains patient charts in an accurate manner, and maintains adequate unit supplies. As needed, will assist clinical team members by performing a variety of duties for patients within the patient care system and under direct/supervision of a registered nurse. Excellent Customer Service is a must.
•Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
•Considers priorities and special needs of the patient, physician, and the Hospital when scheduling appointments and radiological procedures.
•Schedules procedures according to policies, nursing and department staff availability, patient needs, and physician’s block time.
•Maintains schedule according to procedure and physician’s time and staffing requirements.
•Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability, identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed.
•Accurately prepares the schedule for timely distribution.
•Facilitates daily completion of the facility schedule.
•Follows procedure for notification of changes in the schedule (e.g. cancellation).
•Maintains and protects each patient’s right to confidentiality.
•Answers telephone and intercom courteously and in a quiet, pleasant voice.
•Assumes clerical duties and responsibilities as necessary.
•Transports patients, medication, and blood/blood products as needed.
•Assists in department record keeping and tracking of patient volumes.
•Coordinates end-of-month activity and reports with business office, medical records, and coding departments.
•Performs related duties as required.
•High School Diploma/GED is required.
•Working knowledge of medical terminology is strongly desired. Medical terminology with good customer service strongly preferred
•Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.
•Organizational skills is necessary
•Good written and verbal communication skills required.
•Ability to read, write and speak English
•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
•Must have one year of clerical/office related work experience in a medical or health care environment. Computer or word processing proficiency is required, and strong customer service skills are a must.
•Must be able to respond to patient needs by interpreting facial expressions and to communicate effectively utilizing verbal and written communications.
•Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
•Requires working with frequent interruptions.
•Must have good working knowledge of computers.
•Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to communicate in both Spanish and English is strongly preferred.
•Must have excellent customer service skills.
•High degree of competency/experience in general.
•Requires good communication and organizational skills.
