Critical Care Nurse Educator


Critical Care Nurse Educator / Liaison responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • providing professional development and educational services to assist nursing staff  
  • educating patients on cardiac conditions and providing the educational support and discharge follow-up needed
  • collaborating with the director in facilitating staff involvement and developing strategic plans for the departments
  • assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements for the cardiac surgery program


Practice will include collaborating with the Critical Care Director to:

  • Prepare and support staff in acquiring knowledge and skill to provide optimal patient care of critically ill patients, including current staff, new hires, resource team, and contract labor
  • Be responsible for competency-based orientation, training, in-service activities, and other educational endeavors to enhance the development of the nursing staff for critical care
  • Plan and conduct routine department needs assessments and design program curriculum and materials based on objectives
  • Remain current with Standards of Practice, update policy and staff regarding evidence–based practices and best practice in nursing to attain quality patient outcomes
  • Facilitate deployment and validate adoption of programs and initiatives with the critical care departments
  • Collect data, analyze and determine interventions to attain specific quality patient outcomes involved in the education of the staff and the patients
  • Work closely with Cardiothoracic and Cardiac surgeons to ensure positive patient and nursing outcomes
  • Educate cardiac patients pre/intra/post-operatively following open heart surgery or cardiac intervention
  • Provide oversight for the CABG reporting program including the collection, evaluation, analysis and reconciliation of the data report to OSHPOD and Dameron Hospital Association
  • Report cardiac surgery outcomes and statistics on a bi-annually or more frequent basis evaluating patient mortality and morbidity
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to strive toward a best practice, promoting a service-excellence environment at all times
  • Support patient care in the critical care units when needed


Position Qualifications:

  •  Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelors of Nursing Science required
  • Master’s in nursing or healthcare administration preferred


  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in intensive care
  • Experience with management of complex patients with multiple co-morbidities associated with cardiac disease
  • Experience with cardiovascular surgery management preferred
  •  Previous leadership/management/education experience
  • Experience with process improvement required; basic knowledge of statistical analysis desired
  •  Experience with fiscal responsibilities preferred
  •  Previous program management preferred


  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS and ACLS Certification through American Heart Association
  • Critical Care Specialty Certification (CCRN) required
  • Cardiovascular Surgical Certification (CSC) preferred
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements within probationary period
