Certified Medical Assistant

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a dynamic Certified Medical Assistant to carry on our 4 Diamond Guest Service Standards.  If you are looking for a new opportunity, come join our Team!   

The Certified Medical Assistant,
At the direction of the Clinic Manager, performs with patients and staff in rooming patients, preparing patients and exam rooms for visits, handling referrals as needed, handling patient calls, completing forms/documentation as needed after visits. Participate as a member of the Medical Services Team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Any and all duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager, up to and including:

  1. Work to ensure patient satisfaction. Establish rapport with clients; deliver care in a professional manner.
  2. Participate as a member of the Health Care Team by working closely with the physician and other areas of the Clinic to ensure effective patient care.      
  3. Take vital signs (blood pressure, height, weight, temperature, pulse oximetry etc.) on all patients.  Take simple health histories, record reason(s) for visit and ensure that all necessary documentation is complete. Performs visual acuity, hearing tests, EKGs, and nebulizer treatment.
  4. Ensure all exam rooms are stocked with the necessary equipment needed for patient care.
  5. Performs point of care testing as directed by physician, with physician’s orders.
  6. Venipuncture only while licensed provider is on premises.
  7. Administer vaccinations (IM or SQ only) under supervision of RN/MD.
  8. Administer PPD and other such skin tests as needed.
  9. Cleanse minor wounds. Change dressings with direct supervision.
  10. Wipe down exam tables daily and all patient surfaces daily with CDC approved disinfectant.
  11. Keep lab neat and clean. Wash all surfaces daily.
  12. Use appropriate medical terminology.
  13. Dispose of contaminated wastes weekly or as necessary using proper PPE.
  14. Participate in health conferences and in-services as requested.
  15. Share with doctor or nurse any information or observation concerning patient that may have an effect on the patient’s illness/TX, such as abnormal vital signs, abnormal response to patient screening, and adverse reactions to medications, blood draws.
  16. Be aware of the legal limitations and responsibilities concerning patient care.
  17. Cleaning and sterilization of instruments. Cleaning and quality control on the sterilizer.
  18. Perform other duties as may be assigned by RN or Clinic Manager.

Education/Certification

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant by an authorized state or national agency.

Additional Requirements

  • Able to perform or be willing to receive training to perform venipuncture.
  • English-Spanish bilingual skills highly desirable.
  • Have a working knowledge of immunizations.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Must provide excellent customer service.
  • Must understand cultural and social factors that influence health and compliance with appointments.
  • Ability to work well with others, ability to accomplish multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong commitment to mission, policies and goals of the tribal clinic.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Native American preferred. Tactful and cheerful manner.  Current driver’s license, access to reliable transportation.  Computer skills (MS Office Suite) desired.  Willingness to receive continuing education training (some travel required).

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program forms, grants, and documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to the Clinic Manager, Medical Director, Executive Director and/or the Health Board as needed.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, and/or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is physically and emotionally challenging.  There is a high degree of stress and physical activity.  These activities can include: walking, stooping, bending, lifting up to ten (10) pounds, sitting, normal range vision correctable to 20/20, ability to hear within normal range, writing, ability to deal with time constraints and emotional stress.
