Registered Dental Assistant

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a qualified Registered Dental Assistant  to  join our Team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

At the direction of the Dental Director, The Registered Dental Assistant performs the seating of patients, prepares patients and rooms for visits, handles referrals as needed, handles patient calls, completes forms/documentation as needed after visit, and must interact well as a staff member of the Dental Team.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Any and all duties as assigned by Dental Director, up to and including:

  1. Dental Assisting including but not limited to surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, pedodontics and orthodontics;
  2. Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining inventory;
  3. Responsible for ensuring dental department meets current CDC and CALOSHA codes; including Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA, ISSA, Hazardous materials requirements certificates;
  4. Assists with patient education in post operative and post surgical care, oral hygiene
  5. Provide instructions and preventative dental care;
  6. Processes dental digital x-ray as requested by dentist (periapical, occlusal, and CDX (cavity detecting X-Ray images) as well as sinus and panographic images);
  7. Cleans operatories after each patient;
  8. Sterilizes all dental instruments, cleans and resets trays;
  9. Reviews patient charts, Dentrix EDR charting and clinical notes each day.
  10. Enter and follow up CHS patient’s referrals;
  11. Additional patient procedures performed under the direct supervision of the dentist;
  12. Advanced duties performed under direct supervision of the dentist include but are not limited to, child prophy and sealants, tropical fluoride and varnish on medical patients under the age of 2;
  13. Check daily schedule to ensure necessary materials are present;
  14. Lab work;
  15. Clean lab, operatories and sharpen dental instruments;
  16. Clean main evacuator trap and check monthly;
  17. Maintain current CPR certification, RDA license, California Infection Control and law certificates.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited Dental assistant training program and licensed by the Dental Board of California as a registered dental assistant.  Must maintain confidentiality.  Must provide excellent customer service.  Must understand cultural and social factors that influence health and compliance with appointments.  Ability to work well with others, ability to accomplish multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Strong commitment to mission, policies and goals of the tribal clinic.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Native American preferred.  English-Spanish bilingual skills highly desirable. Tactful and cheerful manner.  Current driver’s license, access to reliable transportation.  Computer skills (MS Office Suite) desired.  Willingness to receive continuing education training (some travel required).

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program forms, grants, and documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to the Dental Director, Executive Director and/or the Health Board as needed.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, and/or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is physically and emotionally challenging.  There is a high degree of stress and physical activity.  These activities can include: walking, stooping, bending, lifting up to ten (10) pounds, sitting, normal range vision correctable to 20/20, ability to hear within normal range, writing, ability to deal with time constraints and emotional stress.
