The Director of Accounting oversees financial accounting functions and insures that proper procedures are followed at all times.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:


• Oversees financial accounting functions and insures that proper procedures are followed at all times.  This includes proper recording, posting, compliance, deposits, and accountability of the Casino's funds.

• Supervises the Accounting Department to include, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, financial statements, bank deposits and reconciliations and forecasting.

• Insures compliance with regulations pertaining to accounting principles and tax responsibilities.

• Ensures that Accounts Payable area is following proper procedure and cutting checks for items that are properly approved.

• Verification of bills, invoices, and requests with matching purchase requisition.

• Ensures the payroll area is in compliance with tax, wage & hour, proper sick pay and holiday pay calculations, timely payroll checks, proper benefits deductions, processing of governing loans, holiday, sick, funeral and family leave pay.

• Trains department heads on forecasting and controlling expenses, labor costs, proper writing of monthly and quarterly budget briefs with month end general ledger entries and disputes of budget overages, and charges to specific accounts.

• Works with the Director of Finance to plan and project income and expenses for each department based on ongoing accumulation of historical income expense data, reports, summaries and other accounting data to track income and expenses and plan future operational goals to include expense containment suggestions in an effort to achieve budget in the following month.

• Insures all investments, per capita funds, and accruals are reconciled monthly and per capita checks paid on a timely basis in accordance with set schedule.

• Formulates policy drafts for internal handling, accounting, storing, security transport, and banking of income, with special attention to particularly large amounts of cash currency, with a view toward the intention of reducing losses, accounting errors and enhancing security for the approval of the Tribal Gaming Agency.

• Prepares comprehensive financial statements, profit and loss monthly statements, Forwards reconciliation reports and executive reports to the Director of Finance and authorized personnel.

• Formulates, develops and implements a Standard Accounting Operations Manual which will include, an Individual Standard Operating Manual for each area in Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Internal Audit.

• Reduces complex financial and accounting information to understandable terms, and presents such terms and financial aspects of the casino operation.

• Directs and supervises the operation of the Game Tool/ Data Entry Department.

• Responsible for financial analysis of operations.

• Responsible for all tax returns of the Enterprise.

• Responsible for classification of accounts and organization of accounts and organization of accounting procedures.

• Maintain the Company’s general ledger and supporting journals and registers.  Responsible for all journal entries to the general ledger.

• Assists the Executive Director of Finance as needed.


Age Requirement

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.


  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field.


  • CPA plus 3 to 10 years experience in Accounting.

Additional Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of business and accounting systems and methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable law, regulations, rules, procedures, and administration is required.
  • Proven supervisory skills.
  • Proficient in computers, including Microsoft Office and Accounting applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.
  • Able to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management skills and techniques.

  • Must apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
