Root 246 pastry cook III



We are looking for qualified, motivated individuals with experience at a high level of excellence. This is your opportunity to work in a fine dining atmosphere and only those with serious culinary drive need apply.

Located in the heart of Solvang and Central Coast Wine Country, The Root 246 restaurant offers an ever changing, fresh, farm to table experience to both locals and tourists.  

The Root 246 Pastry Cook III prepares and bakes cakes, cookies, pies, puddings or desserts according to recipes or customer requests.


Age Requirement

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.


  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or other related accreditation preferred. 


  • Three years of progressive experience in pastry.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of kitchen lingo, etiquette, culture and culinary terms.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of basic temperatures, food safety and the impact of spoilage.
  • Must be able to produce quality pastry dishes and concepts.
  • Must have the ability to artfully present pastry dishes.
  • Able to maintain composure at times of high volume.
  • Must be able to organize, plan, estimate and use basic math skills to plan production.
  • Must be able to operate the following equipment:
    • Mobile, convection and rack ovens
    • Proofer
    • Pot Stove
    • Tilting Kettle
    • Sheeter
    • 60 qt. and Spiral Mixer
    • Ice Cream/Sorbet Machine
    • Can Opener
    • Scales
  • Must be able to regulate oven and proofing temperatures.
  • Must be able to properly handle and store all pastry smallware tools and knives.
  • Must be able to communicate in writing and verbally in the English language. 
  • Must be able to follow established safety guidelines and grooming standards.
  • Must exhibit clean work habits and assume ownership of a safe and clean area.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and adjust recipes according to business levels.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules and hours, including nights, weekends, special events, and holidays.
  • Must obtain food handler card within 30 days of employment.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.
