Job Description:
Position Purpose & Scope:
Provides direct service to guests by taking orders for food and beverage, suggestive selling, describing menu items, delivering ordered items, preparing itemized checks, collecting payment, maintaining table set ups, preparing non-alcoholic beverages & minor food incidentals in a friendly and upbeat manner; Provides safe, courteous, fun & legal direct sales and service of alcoholic beverages to guests in the restaurant, during banquets and specials events or any other food & beverage service opportunity areas stipulated by management; Maintains a clean work area in accordance with established standards and procedures; Properly processes cash, comp, credit card and other transaction types; and Assists in maintaining sanitary standards of the restaurant. 



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Performs daily set up of restaurant side / service station areas and condiments
  • Greets guests in a polite and friendly manner
  • Suggests food and beverage (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) items to guests
  • Answers guests questions about menu, restaurant & casino promotions
  • Receives order from guests and correctly enters it into point of sale system
  • Prepares and delivers non-alcoholic beverages
  • Delivers food and alcoholic beverages to guests
  • Opens and serves wine
  • Prepares condiments, soups, garnishes and starches for guest orders
  • Checks guest satisfaction with dining choices
  • Presents guest with properly prepared itemized check
  • Requests and/or receives payment from guest and delivers it to Cashier
  • Thanks guest for dining and extends invitation to return
  • Maintains table organization and cleanliness
  • Maintains sanitary condition of the restaurant
  • Clears and resets tables upon guest departure
  • Polishes service ware
  • Folds napkins and silverware roll ups
  • Maintains cleanliness of service stations
  • Completes side work (stocking, cleaning) as posted
  • Creates a comfortable and hospitable atmosphere for guests
  • Communicates with Bus Persons, Cooks, Chefs and Managers about guest needs
  • Uses departmental cleaning and sanitizing chemicals per OSHA, departmental and manufacturer operating standards
  • Informs management of any product shortages, equipment failures or staffing issues in a timely manner
  • Cleans side station counters, shelving, refrigerators, other equipment & floors in order to maintain a safe working environment
  • Stocks side stations and beverage dispensing machines with product and operating supplies in order to properly serve guest
  • Uses proper, professional language when speaking with guests
  • Checks guest identification to ensures guests are of the legal age to be in casino areas and/or purchasing alcoholic beverages
  • Maintains departmental service timeliness standards
  • Adheres to all state and local laws referencing the service of food & beverage
  • Monitors the alcohol consumption of guests being served and determines potential intoxication levels of guests
  • Removes soiled service ware from work areas and returns it to the bar for disposal and/or cleaning
  • Ensures a safe and sanitary work environment for self and others
  • Informs Supervisor when supplies are needed to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations
  • Ensures compliance to all company, Washington County and OSHA rules and regulations as they pertain to the position
  • Polishes silverware and banquet service ware
  • Burns ice from dispenser wells
  • Performs other general equipment and supply cleaning, polishing and organization tasks as assigned
  • Maintains clean, well-groomed and styled appearance
  • Maintains sanitary personal hygiene
  • Answers guests questions and informs them about departmental & casino promotions, upcoming events and property features
  • Assists Hosts with arranging dining room furniture
  • Assists Hosts with greeting and seating guests
  • Assists Bus Persons with cleaning and setting tables
  • Other job related duties as assigned 

 
Job Requirements:
Essential Knowledge, Skill and Licensure Requirements:
 
  • Must be able to obtain a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board license
  • Possession of TIPS or TAM certification
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must have valid original copy of birth certificate or passport
  • Requires knowledge of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture – Department of Food Safety and Sanitation regulations
  • Required to be able to read, write and verbally communicate fluently in English
  • Must have general knowledge of beverages, preparation and beverage recipes
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment
  • Must be able to use a computerized point of sale system
  • Must be able to memorize daily food specials, monthly promotions and casino promotions
  • Must be able to recite menu descriptions and answer guest questions about preparations and ingredients
  • Ability to handle cash and all other tender methods and be able to make change
  • 1 year work experience in a high volume, ala carte casual restaurant with tray service
 

Non-Essential Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
 
  • Previous work experience as a casino casual restaurant Food Server preferred
  • Possession of Serve Safe certification preferred
 

Relationships:
  • Reports directly to the Assistant Restaurant Managers
  • Reports in succession to Restaurant Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Director of Food and Beverage, General Manager
  • Indirectly reports in succession to Assistant Food & Beverage Department Managers, Food & Beverage Department Managers
  • May be supervised by a Lead Cashier Host or Lead Bus Person
  • Continuously interacts, assists and works as an integral part of a team with gaming and non-gaming guests, Cooks, Chefs, Pantry Workers, Kitchen Workers, Stewards, Bartenders, Bar Backs, Bar Porters, EVS, Casino personnel & Security
  • Occasionally interacts with Engineering and Maintenance staff, Entertainment, Health Inspectors, Employee Relations and OSHA inspectors

  1. Directly impacts casino revenue by serving as the “hospitality host” for patrons to ensure that they are well cared for, comfortable and properly served so that the guest is more likely to prolong their gaming experience.
     
  2.  Actively sells food and alcoholic beverages for non-comp tenders that has a direct impact on departmental revenues and overall company profitability
