Job Title:   Director Product Development
Kettle Creations

Statement of Purpose
This position is responsible for directing new product development for Bob Evans, Owens branded retail and food service businesses. Encompasses entire span of development activities from concept identification through market introduction. Provide a technical resource for ingredients, formulations, equipment, regulatory affairs, co-packer qualification. Create and maintain specification systems of new products. Support marketing and sales functions as needed (i.e.: presentations, recipe development etc.).
  1. Directs the development of new products starting with an initial concept or idea and developing through prototype, scale-up and introduction stages.
  2. Directs the enhancement of existing products through redesign of formulations, packaging or processes.
  3. Insure that new and existing products are in compliance with all applicable regulations. Manage label approvals for all new items
  4. Direct and create communication vehicles to keep key positions informed on the status and direction of new product projects.
  5. Directs and manages sensory and consumer testing for new products. Activities include:  test design, panel recruitment, test execution, tabulation and interpretation of test data, communication of results.
  6. All other duties as assigned.

  • Thorough knowledge of retail food industry, ingredient and purchasing suppliers
  • Extensive background in formulating for meats, entrees and convenient food products.
  • Broad understanding of food processing systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of regulatory programs.
  • Strong verbal, and written communication skills
  • Effective project and people management skills needed.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and within a team environment.
  • Extensive retail product development experience including management of technical personnel.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Meat science or related area
Travel Time
  • Required to travel approximately 20-30% of the time
