Lead QA Technician
REPORTS TO:      QA Manager 
LOCATION:           Kettle Creations div of BEF foods, Inc.

FLSA Status:         Non-Exempt

The Lead Quality Technician performs testing and record keeping during production to monitor, verify, and document that customer specifications are being met.  He/She provides feedback to Production team members and ensures that Quality programming and standards are continually met. Responsible for QA techs on shift and various reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 
Shift Leadership for all QA Technicians.
Other duties may be assigned. 
Test and perform sensory analysis for applicable raw materials and ingredients prior to use to ensure no spoilage.
Test and perform sensory analysis for in-process product to ensure customer specifications are met. 
Inspect finished product for adherence to specification.
Document test results and findings during production.
Provide direction to Production Team Members when adjustments are needed based upon inspection findings.
Monitor and ensure that proper GMP practices and sanitation during production is performed.
Document abnormal findings and downtime utilizing proper forms such as foreign material findings, breakages, etc.
Maintain, sanitize, and calibrate testing equipment as warranted. 
Collect and store retention and sensory samples.

  • Basic knowledge in a Food ManufacturingEnvironmentrequired.  HACCP Certified or able to obtain with in 6mths.


  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Sanitation.


  • Requires judgment to make decisions regarding quality of product and to make changes when not meeting specification.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts & overtime as required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as quality procedures, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Two year Associates degree/or Technical School; Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university is preferred, and/or two to four years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job,  The employee is required to walk, stand, sit; reach with hands and arms, taste and smell and occasionally to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Employee is regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions.  Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high precarious place, outdoor weather conditions, vibration and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the plant environment is usually loud and hearing protection is required.
