Job Title:   Tax Director
Bob Evans Inc.
Business and Financial Operations


Statement of Purpose

This position is responsible for overseeing all areas of the tax function.  Directs and oversees Bob Evans Farms, Inc. tax policies and objectives. Monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes. Ensures accuracy of tax returns and works to minimize Bob Evans Farms, Inc. tax obligations.  Provide counsel to various business groups including HR, Treasury, Legal and Accounting.  



  1. Carries supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  2. Identify and pursue available tax savings and process improvements. Lead projects to develop and implement tax savings, risk management, control and productivity strategies.
  3. Support the Bob Evans Farms, Inc. strategic and operational planning and forecasting processes by analyzing the impact of both proposed and enacted changes in tax law, changes in the business, etc.
  4. Manage all federal, state, local and international tax compliance.  Manage tax audits and create and manage tax calendar.
  5. Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions and tax disclosures in accordance with GAAP for SEC filings, including FIN 48, 10K, 10Q.
  6. Ensure on-going compliance of income-tax accounting and reporting process with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements. Document, maintain and implement internal controls over tax as required by Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  7. Review of corporate tax returns in compliance with various local, state, federal and foreign tax requirements, including the coordination of quarterly estimated tax and extension payments.
  8. Ensure that Bob Evans Farms, Inc. meets all tax compliance deadlines by filing accurate, timely returns.
  9. Research tax laws and regulations for new taxing jurisdictions and inform IT and other affected departments of such laws.  
  10. Research relevant tax and accounting literature, review existing procedures and develop and implement efficient processes to prepare tax provision work papers and federal and state corporate tax returns.
  11. Inform management of tax implications of various business plans and strategies (i.e. benefits, stock option plans, tip reporting, supplemental wages, fringe benefits, expansion, marketing, sales, etc.).
  12. Ensure compliance with TRAC agreement and respond to restaurant management requests for advice and guidance related to tip reporting.
  13.  All other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, communication and research skills
  • Strong MS Office skills required
  • Understanding of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles).


  • Master's degree (M.S. in taxation) or MBA is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation preferred
  • Experience in federal and multistate compliance
  • 5-7 years current experience
