Job Title:   Manager Instructional Design & Development

Statement of Purpose

The Manager of Instructional Design and Development is responsible for supervising and facilitating the development of all training content and core curriculum and for creating innovative solutions for instructional delivery that ensure genuine learner engagement using relevant and updated adult learning theories and styles. The Manager of Instructional Design and Development will also play a key role in conducting needs assessments and developing a training strategy which includes the measurement and analysis of training execution. The Manager of Instructional Design and Development engages in professional level work on instructional systems and provides training evaluation services in support of key training initiatives.


1. Provides ongoing leadership, coaching, development and skill building for Instructional Design Leaders. Ensures Instructional Design Leaders are providing Best in Class training materials and are delivered as required by project timelines.
2. Develops new training materials for key training initiatives and special projects
    a. Works with Project Lead to determine training needs for project
    b. Completes material development which may include reference guides, procedure  documents, job aids, videos, photographs, e-learning modules and leader/participant guides
    c. Partners with department subject matter experts to document procedures and programs to ensure content is accurate and applicable
    d. Translates operational processes into simple and engaging training content and graphics for restaurant teams
    e. Act as a training representative on core project teams; which may include delivery of training content
3. Manages production, cascade, and distribution of existing training materials for key initiatives and special projects
    a. Work directly with vendors, negotiating and coordinating printing and shipping
    b. Partner with department subject matter experts to ensure on time delivery of content
    c. Assist with field training cascade and respond to requests or questions d. Assist with the scheduling and set up of appropriate classroom training or development meetings
4. Tracks ongoing training progress (for all training initiatives) and provides analysis and insights around training execution and business results
5. Knowledge Management – standards, core curriculum, and other training material
    a. Reviews and evaluates effectiveness of training programs through surveys, round tables, field visits, and other performance metrics; modifies existing and proposed training materials accordingly
    b. Partners with operations and other SMEs to maintain operations manual - Develop new or updated content as requested - Manage the updates of materials
6. All other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrates strong leadership and coaching skills
• Utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills
• Strong facilitation and teaching skills
• Computer proficiency including:
     Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
     Experience with AS400, Cognos, Photo Shop, PageMaker a plus
     Experience with Project Management, Microsoft Project, Clarity a plus
• Extensive experience with E-learning, including LMS/Certifications
• Strong writing and oral communication skills
• Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, within tight deadlines
• Able to do detailed and accurate proofreading and editing
• Demonstrated competency on design principles, practices and measurement
• Knowledge of adult learning theories
• Able to work well with a team and individually as a self starter


• Bachelor's degree in business related field or equivalent work experience preferred, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Restaurant operations experience is a plus
• Bi-lingual a plus
• 5+ years instructional design and development experience; work samples required
