Bakery Manager

 

JOB DESCRIPTION::

The bakery manager will effectively direct and supervise all activities of the bakery department and its personnel to achieve merchandising, sales and customer service goals established for the department.
 
Some Job Responsibilities include:

  • Lead others within the bakery department, setting goals and objectives, acknowledging member performance and holding team members accountable for meeting team and individual member performance goals.
  • Selecting, on-boarding and training new team members.
  • Scheduling bakery department personnel.
  • Communicating directly with the store director and bakery specialist and director.
  • Ordering the supplies and products necessary to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Producing and merchandising bakery goods in accordance with bakery merchandising standards.
  • Observing all store rules and company policies directing all team members to do the same.
  • Executing and supporting all sales and merchandising initiatives.
  • Serving as the leader of his/her department, role model, coach, performance evaluator and trainer for his/her team.
  • Creating department budgets and tracking financial reports (e.g. profit and loss, sales and expenses).
  • Achieving department sales and profits goals; and controlling department labor, inventory, product out of stocks and shrink, sanitation, supplies, equipment, safety, scheduling, and training.
  • Ensuring department and team compliance with all heath department and weights and measures requirements.

 

Performs other duties as needed or assigned by management. Must be at least 18 years old. Applicants for this position must have managed a bakery or have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a retail bakery department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS::

Ability to:

  • Excellent knowledge of bakery products offered for sale
  • With both customers and team members, remain helpful, tactful and courteous at all times.
  • Work quickly and efficiently to accomplish assigned duties, ensuring all department members do the same.
  • Consistently produce or merchandise quality bakery items, including, cakes, donuts, breads, pastries and pies.
  • Add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations.
  • Understand the use and applications of all necessary bakery equipment including ovens, proofers, fryers, sheeters, rounders, scales and mixers.
  • Be dexterous enough with hands and fingers so as to be able to use necessary bakery equipment and decorate and finish bakery goods.
  • Learn to use register, scales, scanners and debit/credit terminals.
  • Read UPC codes, product labels, shelf signage, and posted company policies/procedures.
  • Openly and professionally communicate through body language, facial expressions and speech.
  • Listen to and understand verbal and non-verbal communication of customers and fellow members.
  • Stand for long periods of time, bend and twist, and frequently lift and/or maneuver merchandise and supplies.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • Break down pallets of merchandise, lifting and maneuvering at least 50 lbs.
  • Work in walk-in coolers and freezers and constantly around hot ovens and fryers.
  • Work with bakery ingredients including various flours, spices, nuts, flavorings and oils
