Diesel Truck Mechanic



Fleet Truck Mechanics are responsible for efficient repair and maintenance of all heavy duty diesel engines, semi-tractor/trailer equipment. We operate both first shift 5:00 am-3:00 pm and second shift 1:30 pm to midnight 7 days per week. Fleet heavy duty Mechanics normally work 4 day-10 hour work weeks, Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday.  Sometimes extra hours are required as work load demands, business needs or management deems necessary.  

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:    

  • Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, and brake and electrical systems.
  • Perform all assigned work in a manner that contributes to the financial best interest of Bashas’.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on semi-tractor engines and equipment.
  • Making quick drive up repairs to tractors and trailers assisting in on time scheduled deliveries to stores.
  • Must be able to complete hand written work orders documenting all maintenance performed on all equipment.
  • Meeting and/or exceeding all established Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, State, local and company regulations, policies, procedures and qualifications.


Performs any other duties as needed or assigned by management.  Applicants for this position must be at least 18 years old.

Three years’ minimum experience required in all phases of the repair, maintenance and inspection of heavy diesel tractors (Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine experience preferred).

Ability to:

  • Consistently demonstrate a mechanical aptitude to maintain and repair of diesel engines and tractor equipment.
  • Pass a drug and background screen as well as a DOT physical.
  • Work with all shop members, drivers and other company members in a professional, courteous and helpful at all times.
  • Work diligently and independently to accomplish tasks to meet goals and objectives with little oversight by shop supervision.
  • Work in an environment that includes: petroleum liquids, fumes, loud noises, dust, grease, and constantly fluctuating temperatures.
  • Communicate or explain problems including possible solutions to other shop members and supervisors.
  • Listen to and implement all instructions or information presented by other shop members or supervisors to help resolve work problems and issues.
  • Analytically solve problems and challenges daily using deductive reasoning techniques.
  • Lift and maneuver while holding a minimum of 60 pounds.
  • Use hands and digits to repair machinery.
  • Read and intrepid maintenance instruction manuals, databases and company reports as required.
  • Use computers, and software to complete trouble shooting equipment diagnostic trouble codes, determine which parts or supplies are required to complete repairs.
