Job Summary:
Supervise and coordinate activities of Cooks and other workers engaged in preparing and cooking food stuffs by performing the following duties
  • Adhere to established department and property policies and procedures regarding guest service standards
  • Maintains a positive attitude at all times, supporting the policies of Ameristar Casino
  • Must maintain the strictest confidence of any and all confidential information disclosed by an Ameristar entity
  • Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff in the proper preparation of menu items
  • Ensure proper receiving, storage, and rotations of food products so as to comply with Health Department regulations
  • Observe workers engaged in preparing, portioning, and garnishing foods to ensure that methods of cooking and garnishing and sizes of portions are as prescribed
  • Give instructions to cooking personnel in fine points of cooking
  • Cook and carve meats, prepares dishes, (such as sauces) during rush periods and for banquets and other social functions
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Be familiar with the safe handling of cleaning products, equipment, and supplies
  • Respond to reasonable guest requests or place guest in contact with appropriate person for assistance
  • Must obtain a Team Member Satisfaction Score of 4.25 or greater
  • Must maintain a JD Powers Guest Satisfaction Survey score of 9.0 in the area of “Friendliness”
  • Must complete a minimum of three quality coaching forms every quarter on each team member    


Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong problem solving, mediation, coaching, and consulting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Fully Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Degree or certificate from a Culinary Institute desired
  • Minimum of three (3) years Culinary experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience desired
