Youth & Education Supervisor

Job Description:

The Youth & Education Supervisor is an educational administrative position overseeing the management of a wide variety of services available at TES including, but not limited to, the After-School Program, School-Break Programs, and Education Advocacy.  Works collaboratively with other Tribal Education Services staff to support each student’s individual academic needs and provide the necessary motivation and knowledge to propel students to higher levels of achievement. Oversees all Tribal youth programs which support the growth and potential of Tribal youth. Interactions will involve prevention and intervention dealing with issues such as, but not limited to, substance abuse, violence, motivation, connection to culture, and the need for education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)
  • Staff TES classroom and provide direct service in accordance with the department education programming as necessary
  • Coordinate educational programming with staff, insuring that range of needed services is provided appropriately.  Range of programming includes but not limited to elementary, secondary, special, gifted, alternative, and adult/continuing education activities.
  • In collaboration with other TES Team Members, assist with the creation and implementation of the department guidelines and policies.
  • In collaboration with CFO develop TES Business Plan and department budget.
  • Oversee the operation of a safe and healthy classroom environment.  This includes, but is not limited to, planning and carrying out emergency/evacuation drills, inspecting and replacing damaged or lost materials, and updating student records.
  • Acts as a liaison between Tribal Students/Parents/Families and area educational resources in support of student education needs; develop/maintain strategic relationships within the community.  Attend meetings with parents on behalf of students as appropriate and directed.
  • Meet with Tribal Parents/Families on behalf of students accessing department services; provide referral information to additional community resources as appropriate and/or directed.
  • Supervise and evaluate, TES Specialist and TES Classroom teachers.
  • Oversee the documentation of student activity within established protocols; maintain education programming records as needed and directed.
  • Oversee basic educational assessments to determine student needs.  This includes, but is not limited to research-based early literacy programming.  Refer students/families to outside testing as needed and/or directed.
  • Conduct and/or participate in staff training and professional development opportunities as directed.
  • Develop, implement and supervise youth activities and programs. 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, business  administration or liberal arts preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a school administrator or teacher including experience in curriculum design, resource scheduling, budgeting, and education facilitation;or combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in working with Native American populations preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required, including comfort with and proficiency in public speaking.
  • Ability to administer and supervise youth programs.
  • Basic counseling mediation and negotiations skills.
