Job Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

 

Supervise the ACBCI Cultural Monitor staff to ensure the effective monitoring of development/construction projects that are known to have cultural sensitivity or have the potential for cultural deposit.  As directed for the Director of Historic Preservation may perform cultural monitoring activities as needed. 







ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)



  • Advanced ability to recognize cultural artifacts, human remains, village sites, midden deposits; must have the ability to read maps


  • Monitor all ground distributing activity including mass grading, grubbing, weed abatement, trenching and any excavation on previously disturbed and undisturbed ground.


  • Oversee field inspections of proposed projects areas to determine the likelihood or the presence of cultural resources, and the potential archaeological sensitivity of the area.


  • Work as the field liaison between the cultural monitors and construction project management, to include participation in project status meetings.


  • In conjunction with the Director of Historic Preservation and the ACBCI Archeologist, assist in the development of training for the cultural monitors.


  • Assist the Director of Historic Preservation with communication and information dissemination between THPO, Cultural Monitors, and construction project management.


  • Supervise all Cultural Monitors. Coordinate, direct and evaluate Cultural Monitors in the areas of policies, procedures and job performance. Ensures adherence to policies and procedures, and internal controls.


  • In conjunction with Director of THPO, prepare weekly staffing schedules. Approve days off, vacations, personal days and submit weekly HR PANS.


  • Reviews all timesheets and reimbursement requests before submission to Director of Historic Preservation


  •  Must comply with all applicable ACBCI  System of Internal Controls, Standard Operating Procedures and all Tribal Regulations.




 
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION  and/or EXPERIENCE

 



  • Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D.


  • Must have completed a Cahuilla Based Cultural Resource Monitor Educational Program (minimum 40 hours training), be certified, and keep certification current. Other certifications, education and/or work experience will be considered.


  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience including 1-2 years supervising employees, or combination of related education and experience.


  • Strong knowledge of current local research methods and field application of archaeological principles; basic knowledge of federal, state, local and tribal legislation pertaining to cultural resources.


  • Possess the ability to interact with multiple people/groups of all levels and to effectively communicate.


  • Must be certified in CPR and basic First Aid.
